    BAD ram or what ?

Running an 8700k @5.0 on Maximus x Hero and my ram "newegg bundles RGB Trident Z 3200mhz "the hynix crap" will not work past 2100mhz...

when using XMP the bios lists 3200mhz 16-18-38, but once you boot up windows cpuid list it at 1065 x2 which would be 2130mhz.

I've tried manually settings with tighter timings , looser timings, manually setting for 2666 up to 3466, increasing voltages up to 1.4 "testing in between all the increases of course" and nothing also tried manually setting Vccio and Sys Agent volts up to 1.3 still nothing... by nothing I mean if you run any benchmark test on the memory it insta fails. if you just do the CPU tests it'll run forever. and yes even with the cpu clocked all the way down am still getting nowhere I'd ATLEAST like to get the ram running at the factory spec pretty stupid paying $200 to run ddr4 at 2000mhz

any suggestions , or a more detailed manual settings I can try ?

1065 will be stock (2133). With the system at optimised defaults, (including no XMP) are you able to pass stress tests?

anything higher = fail .... doesn't matter if cpu is set to default or 5.0 etc. the ram will not cooperate

Can you try going into DRAM Timing page / Extreme Tweaker and try both Maximus Tweak Modes 1 & 2 after applying XMP. Either mode can help with compatibility with some memory kits.

Ok. Enable XMP and try the following:

Can you please specify the memory kit part number you are using, too.

    Set Primaries to 17-19-19-42

    Set DRAM Voltage to 1.4

Set Maximus Tweak Mode 1 (if still no, try mode 2 with same settings)

    Move down to sub timings

Raise CAS Write Latency (tWCL) by the auto value by 2 clocks

Raise tRRD by the auto value by 4 clocks

    Save and reattempt.

Crap i thought i posted this early this morning...

Apparently the magic number is 17... I have a notepad here full of timing and voltage combos about 30 lines long and i obviously missed a number....

once that first # changed to odd number of 17 it lets me do whatever i want. I've tried on 16, 18 , 19 but apparently 17 is the key.

Currently stable at XMP , mode 2 , 17,18,36 clock speed target 3466 mhz 1.365v.

My vccio and agent are also set back to manual 1.10 and 1.15. When left to auto they seem to swing quite a bit anywhere from .96 to 1.23... since it doesnt want to limit itself ill just do it manually.

I was able to drop way down from the suggested mode 1 at 17-19-42 3200mhz with no ill effects, staying stable so far. Atleast with the boosted clock to 3466 I am a little better to equal of having a 16..

    16÷3200x1000 =5
    17÷3400x1000 =5
    17÷3466x100 = 4.9

Never had such picky ram before cant do 16 or 18 only 17...

Started Aid64 extreme at lunchtime it's now 5hrs 11 minues in and still stable.

    8700k @ 5.0ghz 1.32v
    The ram is at xmp , mode 2, 1.365v , 17,18,36 3466mhz
    Vccio 1.10
    Sys agent 1.15

Everything else pretty much set/based off der8auer's settings, tweaked a little to reduce excessive voltages
