Wasn't the issue regarding Spectre and Meltdown that Intel knew about it for several generations yet did nothing? Safety and security may be a fallacy and an illusion but when compounded by poor decisions and inaction such delusions can quickly turn into a bad dream for many. Just ask the residents of the EU.
