Where do I start with BIOS & ME updates? Avoid Spectre & Meltdown performance hit?

After a long and laborious process my system is finally up! I still need to change several things but I can begin setting up software right now.

Pending jobs:
-Change internal soft tubing to hard lines. (planning for extra fittings)
-Install my Phanteks GPU waterblock to my ASUS 1080Ti (testing to make sure the GPU is fine first)

Other than that I am good to go so I was wondering what to do with BIOS updates.

Right now the board uses the stock BIOS.

Which version would you recommend in order to avoid crippling performance due to Spectre & Meltdown patches? Yet, do I need to install the BIOS and ME microcodes separately?

Ok I have installed 1301 + Latest Windows 10 Pro now so I guess I am all patched now. So what about performance with Spectre & Meltdown patching?

Can I disable them with InSpectre + Using and older BIOS on the 2nd Chip?

Right now everything (knock wood) works perfectly fine.

17 Fans work Fine both through Bios and Fan Expert 4

2 D5 Pumps controlled through PWM

Aura Sync is working as intented with Trident Z RGB + ROG Strix OC 1080Ti + EK Monoblock + a 200mm RGB Fan + Phanteks Halo Lux Digital (this thing is great) with 30 addressable leds.

I will add a Phanteks waterblock to the 1080Ti with RGB LEDS but I don't expect any issues.

No overclocking yet besides XMP memory profile w@ 3600.

7940X (non-delided) CPU Temps 29-54C while benchmarking
VRM max 40C
PHC 54C

This thing seems rock stable right now but will do some stress testing before I proceed to attemp some mild overclock but I don't really care.

But 1301 on Asus page states that it contains the updated microcode. Do I need to do something else?

My microcode is 11.10.0.1287.

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?99938-RE6E-new-BIOS-Version-11-7-0-1057

read through the posts carefully
unfortunately the very helpful screenshots are gone
there is a command line to backup your current one, which was recommended
I suggest asking for help for step by step command lines

I updated everything following the instructions on the aforementioned thread and checked with the Intel detection tool. Success!

Thanks for the heads up I now have both the new firmware & driver for MEI.

Yes now I will try to get stable moderate overclock profile maybe 4.4GHz I don't mind pushing for more and I won't delid now since I am satisfied with the performance and don't want to void my warranty yet.
