Yes, you have to, even though you don't need PBO for browsing the web or playing office. You can save it for more heavy creative or gaming sessions, and keep the electricity bill down at the same time.

But basically, it sucks, but not totally since it CAN still be used.

In AIDA/Geekbench-mode I get 72ns so no deterioration, same behavior as before, the poster must have forgotten which settings he used.
Wait, this applies across the board in all applications? So for gaming its a nobrainer to go aida/geek preset. Jesus christ, they should rebrand that option if thats the case.

BIOS 4207 vs 4406 Cinebench Results

I rolled back from BIOS 4406 to BIOS 4207 after noticing PBO didn't appear to be working with 4406. Before installing 4406, running chipset driver package 18.50.16.01 showed all of my AMD drivers as being up to date, so I cancelled that install.

Here are some highlighted Cinebench R15 and R20 scores using both BIOS for my setup (Ryzen 2700X, X470-F, Hynix CJR-3000, RX 590, H115i Pro AIO Cooler, Windows 10 Pro) and my full sheet of notes from running the benchmarks. Cinebench was run 2X each test, in High Priority mode for score and as normal for visual data collection from Ryzen Master for 4207 and HWInfo64 for 4406 (Vcpu shows about 0.5V higher in Ryzen Master, temps are same between programs, I know my Vcpu measuring is not consistent but temps will show which BIOS uses higher voltage). All startup programs disabled, ambient temperature of 23 C +/- 1 C, water idle temp of 29 C +/- 1 C, LLC set to auto.

    BIOS 4406
Memory PE Mode Freq Tcpu Vcpu Score
    CB R15
    3000 Auto 4.0-4.025 66 1.31 1805
    CB R20
    3000 Auto 4.0 66 1.31 4047

    BIOS 4207
Memory PE Mode Freq Tcpu Vcpu Score
    CB R15
    3000 Auto 4.15 65 1.33 1864
    CB R20
    3000 Auto 4.05-4.1 78 1.42-1.46 4166

My high score for CB R15 was 1923 using BIOS 4406, DOCP-3000 auto settings but Mem Frq at 3400, PE Auto, Manual Frq of 42.5.

My high score for CB R20 was 4301 using BIOS 4207, DOCP-3000 auto settings but Mem Frq at 3200, PE Auto, Manual Frq of 42.0.

Manual OCing seemed very close between the two BIOS versions. 4406 runs cooler in auto modes from seemingly lower frequency and voltage.

So based on this and the other posts I've read, it seems like the best idea is to pass on this BIOS update and wait for the next one which will fix the new issues caused by this BIOS?

Turning off wake timers seemed to fix my freeze on idle issue, it seems like whatever was causing my computer to freeze and the fans to speed up was something that caused the computer to wake up after idling (not the keyboard or mouse since they bring me out of hibernation just fine.) And whatever the last windows update did also caused it to not work properly, so now I just use third party software to control hibernation and with wake timers turned off I have been in hibernation for two days and came out of hibernation by clicking my mouse, without any issues whatsoever.

The reason for lower score and lower temps above is because bios 4406 has a power limit that can't be unlocked from the bios. But it can be unlocked in Ryzen Master, causing scores and temps to be about the same.

Biggest difference is one has to use Ryzen Master because the bios is missing features.

Hi there I love the ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING MOBO, but I noticed the Asus service of drivers and updates are several slow and the drivers they post for the AMD platform are out to date so I give the latest drivers for the chipset, USB controllers and devices of the MOBO, because better drivers do better performance....

These are the drivers updated to March 17th 2019...

    AMD GPIO Controller 2.2.0.113
