Hi,

Few days ago Asus Live Update installed "Asus Device Activation" on my asus laptop.

This app creates two entries: DevActSvc.exe and FWVariableWin32.dll

Currently, there are no information about this app.

Does anyone know what is this app? What is it for?

PS: Someone from Tomsguide has suggested that this app simply registers my laptop as a legitime Asus product.

As far as I know, ASUS doesn't do any "Live Updates".

What Anti Virus do you use? I use avast & defender (passive mode).
I had scanned the installed app with these AVs and also with virustotal & metascan. All came out clear.

Yes, for some reason the link doesn't work anymore; it is just a link to Asus Live Update installer page.

Hi all!
Description of update redirects us to General Data Protection Regulation (or Wikipedia). It's a new (25/5/2018) EU law that justifies personal data privacy. It is extraterritorial, so it must be concerned by every company working inside EU market.
Seems that this update modifies ASUS services on your PC that somehow use your personal data, but I'm not sure, will ask Techsupport.
