So I had an evga ssc 970 in my system. I recently got an evga ftw2 gtx 1080, I uninstalled the card and drivers (970) and attempted to install my 1080. All cables were plugged in, pc was switched on, pcie seated properly. All it does it give a code 00 for 2 seconds, then shuts off. Lights and fans come on for a split second too.

My build is:

Asus Maximus Hero VI
Intel i5 4690k (stock clock)
EVGA FTW2 GTX 1080
Corsair CX550M PSU

I'm at a loss and cant figure out how to make it work. Please help anyone?

You may be cutting it close with the 550 watt power supply. The 1080 alone requires 215 watts. 970SSC uses 148 watts. EVGA says that 500 watts is the minimum power supply required.

Agreed, I would recommend an 80+ gold rated 650W or higher like:

I was thinking the same thing.

Many 550watt power supplies aren't rated for such a high duty cycle.

650 watt gold rated would be my first choice as well.

Hopefully ViceandVirtue will chime back in here to let us know what he did to resolve the issue.

Ive always tended to go overkill on PSUs. 1500i in current build is actually getting pushed pretty hard.
