Save as a Text file. You cannot use a backup cmo file.

I do both. The .CMO can be used if you decide to revert to the older version.

The updated MEI firmware version is 11.8.50.3470
My MEI is 11.7.0.104 after updating to 1401. I used the update tool in the bios. 8700k/Maximus X Hero.

    thanks...
but how do I restore my settings from a text file? The file is there on the flash drive but the new bios doesn't detect it and it won't accept the cmo file either.

You do not talk about the same thing.

The 1401 BIOS UEFI has brought the Intel ME (Management Engine) 11.8.50.3470 firmware (which is the latest ME firmware for this platform), this firmware is located at the BIOS UEFI and it is not a driver on Windows.

On the other hand, for Windows to communicate with Intel Management Engine, it needs the Intel MEI drivers (Management Engine Interface). The latest version of these MEI drivers for this platform are the drivers version 11.7.0.1057 (package version 11.7.0.1069) available here : http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/..._20180530R.zip

It's a text file you have to print it out so when you are in the bios you manually edit the settings and apply what the previous bios settings were.
