so not recommended on a new board to update the bios to 2008 thru flashback first before I build my system?

I had no problem going back to my previous bios using the usb bios flashback procedure so I suggest giving that a go and it should work, that's the method I used to go back to 1102 after having post issues with 2008 but I'm back on 2008 now after sorting out the issues I was having with this latest bios and now it's working fine

This bios is working well for me, much better than 1201 and 1300, both of which were conflicting with my Corsair devices. They also gave me mouse lag, but no more mouse lag in the latest! So at least some problems were solved.
Still don't have p-state overclocking, but maybe someday.
So I guess maybe update, but only after you've backed anything and everything up. This is at least one vote for these bios being safe and stable, though.

I had the same exact problem
HOWEVER
The way I fixed it was to manually put all of my settings in, instead of using a save file that I created from the old BIOS and this worked for me.
If your PC is just sitting there and you cant even get into BIOS then hit the CMOS reset button on the back panel of the motherboard. That will take about a minute and then let you in under default settings and then just manually setup everything else.
