Forbes isn't the only one that isn't impressed, Gamers Nexus and Science Studio YT channels are both underwhelmed, as well as Hardware unboxed from here in oz. Harware unboxed even went as far and called the 2080's a 'stop gap' for 7nm.

That being said, we'll see what the benchmarks bring back, especially from partner boards.

At this point, everyone should be firmly "on the fence", but preorders don't hurt - considering one can simply cancel with as much as an email or phone call.

My whole take on it is, Ray Tracing is new technology for games and is more graphically demanding, Nvidia isn't going to release a gpu that can fully handle it off the bat, so now they can play catch up with their future gpu's.

I hear they'll be another Titan and is rumored to be 3 grand like the Titan V, makes you wonder if you already have a 1080 Ti if adding another for sli isn't the way to go and wait for the next generation.

With the way prices are falling on 10 series stock, that is what I am thinking as well. The only reason I don't already have 1080 Ti SLI is cost. When I had the money to add the second GPU, I didn't because the prices were all jacked up by the mining nonsense that temporarily ruined things for everyone.

In terms of cost, perhaps. SLI support is becoming more dwindling with every generation. It depends if you can take a hit in performance when there's no support in a particular game.

That was never really possible before...only with dodgy driver hacks, sometimes...but since the old SLI fingers are now gone, replaced by NVLINK, that's a definite no.

Will be interesting to see if NVLINK brings any decent mGPU functionality...I presume ray tracing can be done across two cards since it's compute...but SLI is dead

Ok thanks guys. Was wondering what to do about this SLI 1080Tis in my setup. The thought was sell one now, and possibly SLI a 2080TI with the 1080Ti, but you all kindly put that to bed.

I guess i'm better selling one now anyway as NVLINK looks like the final nail in the coffin for current SLI, and GPU mining is all but dead also.

I was a happy/unhappy SLI user up until 6 months ago...but the unhappy part was just taking over so I got rid of my second card at the height of the mining phase to take advantage of silly prices...

2K high MHz gaming with GSync on one card seems like the sweet spot for now...maybe RayTracing will make 2 GPUs more attractive...or cheaper 4K displays...
