Cool Nate thanks man. Your confidence and encouragement makes me want to concur the world hahahaha. I will test when I get home and post results from HWinfo and see where temps are at. You the best brother.

it might be voltage ripple, vrm temps, but these things you can do something about, a simple fan or raising switching frequency, using full phase mode and so on. it is not just the cpu and vcore that makes a overclock stable, every piece of hardware working to get power to your cpu must sing in harmony.
for example if you load your cpu and your phases work, they push 1.3 v interleaved in pulses of 250-500 khz. it is the space between the pulses that makes your voltage "vibrate" and when overclocking that might make or break your stability, asus has a built in setting for vrm switching frequency (and DRAM), if you go up 50khz at the time and check it just might work. some vrms has bigger voltage ripple than others and needs less frequency and some might need more. your cpu might be more sensitive to ripple who knows, there is a lot of things left to try. but no one needs 5ghz I run 4.7 because I like the temps more at that frequencyLast edited by kalle-m; 09-05-2018 at 05:26 PM.

Ok Kalle I will also keep that in mind. Where did you say you can find the vrm switching frequency in the BIOS?

yes and check vrm temps with your fingers under load, you can use common sense if you need a fan there or not, I know it clutters up your build a little bit but it might be worth it.
Go to Digi+ power settings I think its called, and you find it in there with a lot of helpful stuff. Good luck!!!

Nate,
I have a test going right now at 4.8ghz. I think I am going to stick with that core speed for now. I did want to ask you, it seems my case fans are all at the same speed. Do you know if ai suite still works with the asus prime z370 to control fan speeds.
I tried finding their download on the Asus motherboard homepage but I couldn't see it. Can I do it through the iCue software?

speedfan
You can download speedfan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
you will have to program your fan curves and stuff, set what fan is for what control and so on in "configure - fan control" also set your fan controllers to PWM in "configure - advanced" you need to click on the "Novuton NCTXXX" in the drop down box and set them to manual, the top 6 or how ever many fan headers you havehope I explained it so you understand, if you are good at software fiddeling youre not gonna have any problems.
it is a very good software but they don't upgrade it anymore.. but it works good.
