One question please:
I'am thinking about going back to Windows 8.1 with my 7980XE.
a) is the 7980XE 100% fully supported with Win 8.1 ?
b) according to the spectre fixes - is MS fixing Win 8.1 or only Win 10 ?
Background:
every big Win 10 update i have to deactivate 30 plugins and have to reactivate after installing a big win 10 update.
Thats the idea going back to Win 8.1 when the 7980XE is fully supported (with Turbo boost 3.0).
Iam tired to reinstall the complete system in 3+ days - for a productive system its a no go.

a) Windows 8.1 Kernel way too old. It didn’t support these features*
* * *- Native Dual FMA3 both 256/512 bit operand. When running on W 8.1 your Skylake X may performing
* * * *on par or below Boardwell E CPU some tasks.
*** *- Intel VROC NVMe features need to install many drivers when running on W 8.1
* * *- Native AVX-512 operand . Many services on W 8.1 Kernel were 32-bit so it will not fully utilized
* * * *Skylake X architecture efficiently, Some service may forcing your CPU cache system access only
* * * *half from fully efficient.
b) Ofcourse, only Windows 10 and it futures update only priority first.*

Why not dual boot? That's what I do. Then you are free to use whatever OS is best suited to the task at hand. It is a myth that modern processors need Windows 10 to work properly. The Redmond Mafia needs people to believe that to make their latest abortion (Windows 10) successful. Skylake, Kabylake and Coffeelake are all fully supported by Windows 7 and work flawlessly. In all but a tiny hand full of benchmarks, Windows 7 outperforms any newer version of Windows. Windows 8.X and newer castrates CPU performance.
If you set up Windows 7 and Windows 10 in a dual boot configuration, you will be instantly convinced of Windows 7's superiority when you see Windows 10 getting raped in benchmarks like wPrime and Cinebench, 3DMark 11, 3DMark Vantage, etc. (Basically anything that requires optimal CPU performance will do better ruuning Windows 7 than it will running Windows 8.X or Windows 10.)Last edited by Mr. Fox; 10-07-2018 at 08:42 PM.

@Mr.Fox
Well, you know what, I might grab an SSD and throw windows 7 on it and test it. I won't set up dual boot immediately but you got me thinking mainly because it would be interesting to see how the older games I want to play perform in windows 7. You see I have been away from the hardware scene and games for almost 10 years and now that I am back (i9-79040X, 64GB RAM, 1080Ti, Nvme, Custom Loop, etc) I still have a big baglog of older games I want to play like Tomb Raider, The Witcher, Bioshock series, Assassins Creed and more. All those are older titles so Windows 7 would not be a bad choice to test.
However, for my main day-to-day computing and work I still need Windows 10 for various reasons and of course testing so I know first hand what my customers see and get.

Thanks for testing and sharing
Weird that this TJMax is still 110°
A "bug" or an Intel will
MSI has "integrated" the 4D in these latest bios, I do not know if the TJMax is also 110 °
If you want to test it (I'm not in front of my PC now)Last edited by tistou77; 10-25-2018 at 07:53 AM.
