The rt-ax88u isn't without its problems: slugging internet on both lan and wifi, random reboots every few days or so but overall much better than the GT was at release. Range on the AX is amazing without using ax and being able to use dfs channels is nice too. I have 2 paired, one as the main router and the other as a media bridge (yes, bridge mode does work the ax88u) and get a much better connection at times but it seems to have issues maintaining it consistently. For instance, with 2 GT's in the same configuration (gt in bridge I'm stuck using fw 20308 because bridge mode is broken in the newer fw) the bridge connects on 5ghz-2 and I get a pretty consistent 390mbps with around -68 rssi. Paring the ax-88u's I get around 900 mbps with around -60 rssi. However, ping times tell a different story, 1-2ms on the GT and 1-10ms on the ax88us. Sadly, those ping spikes are very evident if trying to stream or download. Overall, the ax has much better initial fw than the last few Asus routers I've bought though. It also seems that Merlin might at least be considering including the ax88u on his future fw releases.

Thanks for the info Chris, did you have to use bridge mode as Aimesh is not yet supported on the rt-ax88u?

No connection problems on 2.4 or 5.You should probably do this regardless but Just make sure any bridges, repeaters, and I assume aimesh nodes, have a static ip. I have noticed that my bridges will lose connection if set to auto obtain ip addresses. Not sure why this is happening but there seems to be some issue with the ax88u passing on dhcp and dns from my windows server to the bridges. Had the issue on another an ax88u and a GT-ac5300 but oddly enough I have a rt-ac5300 running Merlin's firmware that hasn't had any issue auto obtaining an ip when in bridge mode. No issues with other wireless devices, laptops, pcs, phones, staying connected. I mentioned in an earlier post about it being sluggish but it seems that was due to a problem a recent window update caused to my server. Did an initialize reset on the router after fixing my server and lan and wifi seem to be running normally though slow when first connecting and no random reboots in almost 48 hours. I have to say the ax88u runs better at release than the GT is running after being out for over a year and a half.
