If the Skylake-X refresh CPUs are not compatible with X299 and especially Rampage VI Extreme I am really disappointed. R6E is the most gorgeus board I've ever owned, don't want to replace it anytime soon. Actually I am very happy with my 7980XE and R6E but don't like the idea that my CPU is currently delidded and running on direct-die using liquid metal directly against the waterblock...

I would consider changing motherboard for upgrades like DDR5 & PCIE-4/5 not some USB or wifi thing. However, I could swap my i9-7940x CPU for something that does not require deliding and clocks higher. I am currently waiting to see if the new CPUs are worth it or will delid and move on and ignore anything that comes out without seriously upgraded features.

I think a lot of the new chips, but not all, are LGA 2066 so the old board will work. I would think a bios update is needed.

Only one SKU is not LGA-2066 I think (the 28 Core Part), the rest will work.

And there are no new boards announced as of now. It does not seem like they are needed for the LGA-2066 parts since there is no new chipset. Maybe some revisions. We'll see.
