I just tried to download the MEI driver at mediafire (the zip for the PC) and received a bunch of security popups with someone stating that Microsoft security has identified a virus on my computer or something like that and more popups (I believe this is ransomware). I immediately shutdown the computer as I received ransomware several years ago where I tried to shutdown the program but it had already downloaded and locked up my computer. I was later able to remove the virus but it took a lot of effort. Not sure if the latest virus can be removed. Not sure this is the same virus but I do know that reputable security companies do not advertise security software like this (according to Anti-MalwareBytes).

That sounds crazy, I just did the same as you to see what happens and everything went well! What exactly did you do?

I figured this would be the response I would get. I just tried it again and got the popups and error messages again and immediately shutdown my computer. After restarting, I did a Google search and it appears I might have an adware program installed on my computer and will get it removed. What I stated above was exactly what I had done (click on the link to the MEI update - MediaFire.com. Click on the zip file for the PC and the malicious malware appears). Here is a link to the site where it shows exactly what I saw (@MalwareBytes) - https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove...rom-microsoft/. I apologize for any scare I might have caused to you or others. Just saying, I got the message but it appears your computer has to be already infected with some type of adware program and I was not aware of that until I did some further research.

EDIT: I see now that I clicked on Winzip for PC instead of the actual download for MEI. Duh!

Thanks for this thread to updated drivers!

    Best regards,
    Jim

I was questioning the need for new drivers when the old ones work just fine.

I guess we can hope for some improvements from these new drivers but I can't think of what those improvement might be.
