    Prime x299-deluxe confusion

Referring to the Specifications section on the ASUS main website, down at the bottom of the page there is the NOTE section where it states 'PCIEX16_4 max. at x2 mode in 44-lane & 28-lane CPUs'.
However in the manual, page 1-8, there is a reference to 44-lane CPUs and Triple VGA/PCIe cards, which states the 16_4 slot can use x8.

Does anyone know which one is correct? Can I use a (up to) x8 card in 16_4 if there are enough lanes available or are they now saying the manual is wrong and the max is x2?

I will never use a triple VGA scenario, doubt if I'll use a double VGA as this isn't predominantly a gaming PC. I just want to know for future reference how big a card I could use in this slot.

    Thanks
