Although I hate this false advertising and nasty cost cutting by Asus, my Maximus XI Hero is working flawlessly so far. I have been able to hit 5 Ghz on all cores stable on my 9900K with 1.252v under load. In addition, my G.Skill memories have been able to hit CL5-16-16-32 1T @ 3200mhz which was not possible on my old system with 4 sticks of memory on the 6700K. The bios is intuitive and solid. The VRM might be a beefed up 4 phase but its plenty enough to overclock the 9900K as buildzoid pointed out. Overall I am very satisfied with the board and the bios.

I think clearly, following in the footsteps of many other companies, Asus want to get out of the Motherboard market and milk it for what they can in the interim.

So we can assume that the sound issue has not been fixed on Board no. 11 as well?

ASUS is the world leader in the motherboard market. And their motherboards are used in multiple platforms across multiple markets. And they've invested a lot into building their enthusiast brands. They've been through good and bad market times and market trends before, they've been through good and bad press before, they've always stubbornly continued towards being the first to market and being the first to break old records.

It makes sense for losers to drop out of the race but ASUS is in the lead. Why exactly would they intend to quit the motherboard market?

I am not surprised at the silence from Asus. A year later, it finally came out that Asus released 2 versions of the Max X Hero (and Hero wifi) with completely different VRM designs, due to a temporary parts shortage. Some boards report a VRM temp (the "good" ones) and some do not (the "bad" ones). I, and others, asked and asked and asked for clarification of why some people got a VRM temp reported and some did not. Total silence from Asus. Raja was actively posting in the same threads but would not respond to repeated requests for information about this. Elmor was silent then and when the issue popped up again recently on OC.net, he is silent now.

How are we, as consumers, supposed to make an informed decision about a complex product, when the manufacturer changes major, critical components mid production, with no notice, and then refuses to acknowledge it? How can I know that the boards being reviewed have the same components as the board I receive? I might expect that from a no name Chinese brand but not for a ROG level motherboard.

Their refusal to comment really ticked me off. But like many here, I have always trusted the ROG brand, and I am familiar with (and spoiled by) the Asus UEFI BIOS. So, I was getting upgrade fever and bouncing back and forth between the Max XI Hero and Code, Now I think I am going to start looking at the Gigabyte BIOS because If its functional, I think I am going for the Aorus Master. Fool me once Asus, shame on you. Fool me twice - I don't think so.

Nice, I'm glad it ended up being okay for your use case. I think that is the best outcome we can hope for, at least for those of us that had already purchased prior to this information becoming widespread. Still a shame about the way all this was marketed and no comment from ASUS on the matter.

Straight up lying to customers is a bad marketing strategy. I didn't expect that kind of stupidity from ASUS.
