Can someone clear up misinformation on the Z390 XI Hero's power phasing?

Hopefully Gamers Nexus or Asus can clear this up soon. I have my 9900K and XI Hero ready but after learning about this VRM Phase issue and potential throttling I want to wait and learn more before I rebuild my PC. Still in the 30 day return window from Newegg for the XI Hero/

I’ve got a Max X Hero and Prime Z370-A both with 8086Ks (9900K hasn’t arrived yet).
There is a massive difference in those 2 motherboards. With no AVX offsets, the Hero does 5.0 @ 3.6v, the Prime does 4.8 @ 3.6v. The Prime boards are awful.

I expect they would both be dead at 3.6v.

Better check with Newegg regarding your Hero XI. As I understand, the Hero and the others can not be returned for refund, only replacement with the same model.

You are right, its replacement only. Guess I could still sell on eBay or r/Hardwareswap as open box / new. Hopefully more details come out soon so I can make a decision.

Man this isn't looking good.. I really wanted the Formula but if I'm paying $719 AUD I expect a decent VRM.. It's such a difficult choice because the Gigabyte Master and ASRock Taichi Ultimate are looking like better performers for less money, but I really don't like Gigabyte's BIOS and I've never had a ASRock board before, but I've heard their BIOS isn't great either. ASUS nailed it with the ROG BIOS and features but man.. I dunno.. I only have a small amount of time in which to decide if I want to cancel my order. :/

I seriously doubt ASUS would cast aside all regard for their reputation and suddenly get chintzy on a flagship motherboard's VRM setup. Maximus X was the best overclocking Z370 board available and there is no reason to expect the Maximus XI to be any less amazing for Z390. Every manufacturer makes stupid mistakes now and then, but I really doubt the motherboard engineering team is dumb enough to do that because it would cause them more financial harm and brand damage than the pennies saved cutting a couple of corners.

I agree with all that logic, that is exactly what my thinking was when I placed the order last week. I also agree that the Maximus X line was excellent for 8th gen, I have a X Hero and an X Code and no complaints about either. However looking at the information I have available, the VRM design looks almost the same as Z370 in that it appears to be (for the CPU) 4 phases and 8x 50A power stages, but different component models and an extra 4-pin EPS. Also with HU Steve's video last night he showed that the Hero (which shares the same VRM as the Code and Formula had generally the hottest VRM and required more voltage @ 5Ghz than the other boards. This is somewhat concerning to me. I don't know a whole lot about VRMs to be honest but based on the information I have available it doesn't look like it's as good as we expect for these high end boards, or even much better than their Z370 counterparts right?

I'm not super keen on the other boards either (Gigabyte, ASRock, MSI) but if I'm paying $719 I expect at least on par overclocking results which is why Steve's comment about the Hero requiring more Vcore than the others is concerning to me, I hope I'm wrong about all this, I really want the Formula to be as good as I originally expected. Hopefully Steve from Gamer's Nexus or Buildzoid will have a video out sooner rather than later on this topic to clear things up..
