The Extreme and Gene definitely have a superior VRM. They are expected to be in stock here in Australia this week. The extreme is $819 AUD but it's also E-ATX so it won't fit in some mid tower builds like mine.*

This whole vrm situation is like a runaway train. My advice to Asus would be to address this in forums to those concerned and make a video explaining how the configurations work before people make their own assumptions. I for one would appreciate more details. This would be very helpful rather than simply ignoring it.

I too would greatly appreciate someone from ASUS (maybe Raja) to chime in here. It's incredibly surprising that no one from ASUS has commented on this thread since they have staff regularly active on this forum, and the VRM on their flagship series of motherboards is getting torn to shreds on Youtube.

I think their silence speaks more than enough. This thread has been up for 2 weeks. Why would they even call it an 8 phase when they knew it wasn't. That's like calling a 4 cylinder engine a V8. Buildzoid just did a video on this board( www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLO-vYjJN-I ) and states categorically that it has a 4 phase.

I'm skipping this gen architecture because I already have 6700k and a 7700k systems. I might build a Ryzen 2700x system and was looking at the Crosshair VII board but have been reading about Bios problems that it is having when I came across this trash fire. Between this, the RTX launch and the specter/meltdown issues, it has not been a good climate for pc builders. Good luck with whatever you individually decide to do.

I'm with you there. I watched the video early this morning. It is absolutely false advertising. It's a 4 phase with 8 mosfets for the CPU. Presumably a very small bump in efficiency from last gens Maximus X Hero/Code/Formula from what he said. He did say pretty close to the Taichi ultimate in terms of performance but supposedly the Hero doesn't cool the VRMs as well. As for me, I'm not aiming for extreme OC, just hoping for 5Ghz so I should be okay, I'll plumb the VRM block into my custom loop and that should help keep the VRM temps down. The reviews I read for the Formula were pretty positive, but still though, not impressed at all by ASUS' advertising and I think they could've done much better than this for the high price of the boards. At a minimum their marketing should have stated 8 power stages instead of that "twin 8 phase" BS.

In any case I've already got a 9900k sitting on my desk and my order for the board has already been shipped, I'll post here if I have any issues with it.

I have had my XI Hero and 9900K for a week and at first It was just procrastination preventing me from taking apart my 6700K+VIII Hero for a rebuild. With this new info I'm even less motivated lol. Definitely keep us posted on temps, voltage and what kind of OC you can get with a 9900K on the XI Hero.

I bought the Formula, but yeah I will let you guys know how I go. Same VRM but watercooled. A lot of it will depend on how good my chip is though, I have yet to determine that haha.

If it's any reassurance there are guys here on the forum getting higher than 5Ghz on the Z370 Maximus Code and 9900k. It just sucks we didn't get much of an upgrade this time, and the way they marketed it as a "twin 8 phase"..

I'm in the same exact boat..... sitting here staring at my parts unmotivated to do the build

Do I close my eyes to all of this, just build the rig, and pretend the 9900k/Hero XI combo isn't a dumpster fire? Or do I Ebay all of it and just stick with my rock solid delidded 7700k @5Ghz? I wasn't even needing to do an upgrade but I was going to hand down my 7700k combo to my son that really needs a new PC. Maybe I should have just built him an 2700X for a fraction of the price. *sigh*

I've been a huge ROG fan for years and I am disappointed Asus is avoiding this thread......

SO, AFTER ALL THIS TIME NOT ONE POST FROM SOMEONE FROM ASUS TO CLARIFY THIS QUESTION ABOUT THE VRM MYSTERY USED FOR THE MAXIMUS XI SERIES BOARDS, SO i GUESS WHAT EVER EVERYONE HAS BEEN SAYING NEEDS NO FURTHER CLARIFICATION BECAUSE SO FAR WHEN SOMEONE POSTS SOMETHING THAT IS NOT CORRECT ABOUT AN ASUS PRODUCT, SOMEONE FROM ASUS PROMPTLY STEPS IN TO CLARIFY.

I JUST BOUGHT A MAXIMUS XI CODE TODAY THAT I'M PUTTING IN AN i7 8086K FROM MY MAXIMUS X HERO. I AM ALSO PUTTING A SPARE BRAND NEW REPLACMENT i7 8700K IN ANOTHER SYSTEM WITH A MAXIMUS X HERO UNDER THE HOOD... AS A SECONDARY SYSTEM. SO IF I CAN SPEND THIS MUCH CASH [OUT OF ALL THE CASH I'VE SPENT THUS FAR] AND BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER TO ASUS SINCE BEFORE 2002, AT THE VERY MINIMALISTIC LEAST SOMEONE FROM ASUS CAN JUMP IN THIS THREAD AND GIVE US SOME TECHNICAL DETAILS ON THE VRM SPECS OF THE MAX XI SERIES. THIS IS NOT ASKING FOR TOO MUCH. AND NO APOLOGY FOR MY SHOUTING I NEEDED TO PWM VENT :}.... HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND I HOPE YOU'RE SPENDING MY HARD EARNED CASH WISELY :]
