Asus Aura Sync and Gigabyte Xtreme Software contain vulnerabilities

    Source of the report https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/as...abilities.html

    Details:

A security company called SecureAuth shares word that that two drivers from Asus and also two from Gigabyte contain vulnerabilities. The drivers come bundled with tools that companies provide for motherboards and video cards. In total, there are seven vulnerabilities affecting five software products, and researchers wrote exploit code for each of them. Many of them might still be unaddressed. Two of the vulnerable drivers are installed by the Aura Sync software (v1.07.22 and earlier) from ASUS and the flaws they carry can be exploited for local code execution reports tweakers.net via bleeping computer:The vulnerabilities lead to privilege escalation via software like the GIGABYTE App Center (v1.05.21 and below), AORUS Graphics Engine (v1.33 and below), the XTREME Engine utility (v1.25 and earlier), and OC Guru II (v2.08). The vulnerabilities are tagged under CVE-2018-18535, CVE-2018-18536 and CVE-2018-1853. The first and last allow the execution of code with elevated rights, the second can lead to the reading and writing of data via the I/O ports.ASUS has been informed in November last year. In April, Asus released a new version of Aura Sync, but it only fixed two of the three problems, according to SecureAuth.Vulnerable PackagesASUS Aura Sync v1.07.22 and previous versions

What does Asus recommend we do @raja @MasterC

I use default strips and yes it does not save the numbers, resetting to 90 every time. By the way I have reinstalled windows and freeze issue still persist (and terminal issue too). As I remember version 1.06.95 had no that problems.

Ryujin OLED and RGB settings on Motherboard won't work.

    1. American Megatrends Inc. 1003, 11/12/2018
    2. ASUS ROG Ryujin 240, ASUS ROG Strix Flare,
    3. Shutoff and restarted PC dozens of times.
    4. Uninstalled and reinstalled AURA multiple times. Also reinstalled windows.
    5. No
    6. Windows PRO 10 OS BUILD: 17134.472 Version 1803

Freezes at times while open and won't save settings selected, Ryujin cooler settings won't save nor for motherboard. Also sometimes won't open and just crashes. Also everytime i try to open my Corsair RGB ram freezes. Yes i have iCue installed and have tried running AURA with it uninstalled but still no luck.

power cycle, reboot, shutdown makes no difference

    4. If you have tried reinstalling Aura or Windows already.
    yes reinstalled windows and aura.

    5. OS build/version.
    windows 10 1803 build 17134.471

    6. If the issue was present in the previous version(s).
yes. installed recent version. then removed new version completely (had to use registry editor as uninstaller not working correctly). installed old version in the download area. same problem exists

Please Include a screenshot of the Aura UI, and any other pictures if applicable.

I forgot to mention, that the reason I am trying to put in the correct numbers is simply this, when using "party" for music mode, more then half of the leds between each are red, while the rest are random colors. This same problem happened on my laptop when i hooked up the power externally (i did that because it has no rgb devices) to the rog terminal, then the usb cable to one of the ports.
What graphics cards are you using? PC and laptop.

Concretely, if no one physically accesses your PC, you do not risk anything at all :

    Impact : Code execution
    Remotely Exploitable : No
    Locally Exploitable : Yes
