Well it seems Asus has given up on Z270 as far as driver updates go. Im curious what I should do about Intel Rapid Storage Technology. My current download
from Asus is version 15.9.0.1015 from December 2017, it looks like Intel has released at least 2 versions since then. Im not sure if it would be best to download the newest version 16.7.0.1009 from Intel or if I should remove it all together? I know it can cause slow boot times etc. Is it posible to just install the updated AHCI
driver and not the IRST software? Please give me your expert opinions.

I stopped to install him on X99 because my HDD WD Black 2TB sometimes gone after restart.
He was visible in BIOS only not in OS and request to re-plug SATA cable on motherboard.
Culprit was IRST. Microsoft driver default for Windows 10 is ok, same performance, no problems.
This happen to lot of people. I didn't had problems with SATA II HDD before 2-3 years, but when I replace with SATA III problems show up.

Well for everything related to Intel RST you will be hard pressed to find better info than on this thread:

Read EVERYTHING on the first page carefully there and you will find the latest driver for your platform.

I have INTEL RSTE driver installed on my Rampage VI Windows 10 machine and it works fine. Initially I had also the console installed but since I am not using a RAID array I just have the drivers now and all is working great.

Beware though that downgrading from the RSTE version to RST can cause trouble and render your PC unbootable so choose wisely.

For my part, I used Intel AHCI drivers only.

Note : Some time ago, I used SAMSUNG NVMe drivers but since I uninstalled them, the Microsoft drivers present in Windows 10 1809 are more efficient.

Yeah I was reading that page earlier and trying to figure out why his version #'s dont match up with the drivers on Intels download page, Intels most current driver
is 16.7.0.1009 & he lists v16.7.0.3513 so either Intel pulled that driver for some reason or he is using different version #'s cause he is modifying the drivers. Not
sure which but I went ahead and downloaded the one from Intel. I just installed the full software version & driver but I forgot to test my boot time without an RST driver.
My pc currently boots in just over 19 sec according to task manager, same as with the older Asus IRST driver/software

I am on a different platform and using RSTe so my version is

"64bit Win8-10 Intel RSTe AHCI & RAID drivers v5.5.0.1334 WHQL"

I did not notice any difference in boot time after upgrading with a Samsung 960 Pro NVME (does it even use RST?) but I think my Hard drives perform a bit better. Particularly a Western Digital Gold 10TB I have seems to sustain 220-230 Mb/s writes during backups with Macrium Reflect. It might be my idea though and since I have no measurements before the update I am not 100% sure. The reason I updated was because I was updating several other stuff as part of my maintenance cycle.

Intel states that IRST is compatible with NVME but im not sure if it has any effect on boot times
