U can’t. Chk my post below.
There are problem with maximus xi 4 dimms slot. Rated as 4400 oc but i can run only 4200 mhz. Need some bios update.
Unlike 2 dimm motherboard( gene , strix i gaming , up comming apex ) that can run 4600mhz xmp without any effort.
Meg godlike and so much cheaper gig aorus can run 4500 xmp in one click. A*lot better than maximus xi extreme.
What wrong with asus? Fix it pls.*

I Have a 16 GB Dual Kit Gskill 4400 cl18 and i Only Manage to be stable on the Hero XI with downclock the Ram to 4000Mhz.
Its not Maximus its Medimus but better then Lowmus. But for this Premium Category and Premium Prices Point i hopped for more.

And Yeah the 4400 OC missleaded me to .. its Only with 4 Dimms installed but this Info you can only find on the ASUS Website not on the Mainboard Package or else
I Really hope that a Bios Update makes as Happy and make the Board from Medimus to Maximus :-)

I wouldn't be to hasty guys in wagging the finger at ASUS as anything over 4k is good and not being able to run XMP at 4400+ is more than likely down to your cpu's IMC and not the board. you probably can get it to run, it will just take time tweaking timings and voltages. I can run 4400mhz with ease on my Gene but 4500 is a no go and I should say that's my limit with this cpu and my current cooling.

There's lots of variables to take into account it ain't just the board!
i9 9900K, ROG Gene XI, G.Skill 4266 and one big bucket!

XMP is a gamble past 3800. I've found I get best results by manual tuning, dropping the clock and lowering the CL so response is even better!

I have had no problems getting XMP profiles to work with my Maximus XI Extreme. Booted up with some 8Pack Edition Team Extreem kits (3 off) without any problems. 4600Mhz is big ask for most CPU's. I happen to have a very good IMC on this processor so was not expecting anything else.

I can get my Gskill Trident Z 4133 17Q to boot and run stable at 4133 using XP1 on my Hero XI. Above that I can get it to run, but it requires manual tuning. So it's definitely not the motherboard. It really comes down the CPU's IMC, your cooling and how hard you push the CPU clocks.

I am still surprised how many folks buy expensive top end highly bin clocked RAM thinking it will run just because the board supports it and fail to even consider the CPU's memory controller. We've been dealing with internal memory controllers on CPUs for quite a few years now. I suppose it would be helpful if board makers and RAM kit sellers really underscored that point on their advertising material. Might save some heartache (and likely reduce some sales) . A lot of folks drop big cash on high end binned RAM that they cannot run with a weaker IMC on the CPU.

There are numerous factors at play at those speeds. You're asking a lot of CPU at that frequency with a 4 DIMM topology layout, this isn't something that is specific to one vendor. If not looking to dial things in manually always consult the QVL.

Never a truer word been spoken in some time my friend. I can not stress just how important the IMC of a cpu is. Folks are so used to discussions about a 'good' cpu being one that will do a frequency at a silly low voltage but that is just one part of what the current CPU is all about. IMC is as critical if not more so in todays memory hungry and dependant software.

    Great post mate.

The four-Dimm Maximus board’s feature a T-Topology trace layout, which is better for fully populated configs. If you run a two-dimm kit on a T-topology motherboard, the maximum stable frequency will be two to three ratios below the maximum rated frequency for four-DIMM kits. This cannot be fixed by a BIOS update. It’s a limitation of T-Topology.

Even when using four-DIMM kits, I always advise that users subtract at least a few ratios off the maximum memory frequency the board is rated for. There are many variables at play so opting for the maximum frequency isn’t wise if you favour ease of use.

Please write a clear post that states which memory kit you are using (list the part number of the memory kit).
