pg278qr wont go passed 85hz..defective?

i have 2 pg278qr monitors and one pg278q. all hooked up to 1080ti in sli. my most recent 278qr wont go passed 85hz. anything above that in nvidia control panel causes the monitor to go black and show a no display port signal. i put in a spare 278q in its spot and hit 144hz without issue. display port cable is known working and stable. is this an issue with the monitor itself not being able to push passed 85hz?

Updating this for others in the future. It was a bad display port cable. Poor quality plus long cable = no picture at high refresh. All fixed now

DisplayPort limitation. DP1.2 and DP1.2a can carry up to 17.28Gbps ... two monitors at 2560x1440 would imposes an upper cap ~85Hz refresh rate.
