Heats up with the latest microcode (Skylake-X)

Hello

As some have noticed, since the 4D microcode, the Skylake-X TJmax has gone from 105 to 110° C and the cores' temperature has been increased

I contacted Intel, who will look if it's a microcode problem
But Intel also asked me to see with the manufacturer of the motherboard, if the problem does not come from the bios

If someone from the Asus staff can send the information to the service concerned
Sorry for my english 😄

"TJmax" has increased or core temps have increased? They are different things. And they can be mitigated different ways.

The 2 😉
But must test to realize it

He mean Tj MAX increse from AIDA 64 here and He had notice his idle temp also increse around 4-5 degree celcius after 0200004D microcode.

The Tj Max increse was detect from AIDA 64 for 0200004D microcode.

Also latest 02000055 microcode.

He feel this may shortage his CPU lifespan and hope ASUS BIOS team could optimized new revision of BIOS to keep Tj max @105 degree celcius same as initial BIOS of R6E default.

I got an answer from Intel and the problem will come from the Asus bios and therefore Asus has to solve the problem
In other words, it will never be done
Sorry for my english 😄

I expected ASUS X299 Bios Team lead by Shamino trying hard to getting best solutions Master Tistou77, They’re increases UNCORE speed from default 2.4GHz to 2.7GHz by default for performance gainers over other vendors. Thus something over default under Spectre and Meltdown patched may cause those issues.*

Yes maybe but it is not normal that the TJMax is modified and this increase temperature
I tested with my OC, and therefore with the same frequencies Core / Uncore

Confirmed. I had the same problem on Windows 7 (x64) i9-7960X/R6E and BIOS 1603/1503mod. After the update, Tj Max set to 110°C and cores temperatures have increased by ~5/6°C (idle and full load). No way to fix it? Thanks!

The only fixes are....

1. We don't know if it's actually increasing the temp or just reporting it wrong.
2. Stay on 1503 with microcode 43. If you're running Windows 10 1809, Windows will load microcode 49 automatically and the temps will be fine.
3. If you want the other updates in the 1603 BIOS, but not the temperature issue. Download a modded BIOS with microcode 49 or below, anything
above 49 will show the temp increase.

All above maybe came from this cause.

1. 0200004D microcode was issues to address most 2018 vulnerable include Lazy FP and L1TF by early stage patch.
As I said many time here those vulnerables need both hardware and software especially OS Optimized together to
mitigation in better shape. Compared to cars engine used emergency mode on ECU to avoid many parts failure thus *
these mode consume more petrols than default. But it save the engine and part lifespan not shorten lifespan.

Idle temp increase around 5-6 degree Celsius was not seriously situation for CPU itself at all . In terms of these
for me did not disappoint solutions at all.

2. Following 0200004D there are 02000050 and now 02000055 which I used for testing with W10 2019 18298.1000.
There are many area that improve over 0200004D especially AVX2/FMA3 heavy loaded and AVX512/FMA3 loaded
CPU was more efficiently to run full 100% load under 55 degrees Celsius. (Lower than pre mitigation microcode a lot ).

3. Idle state increased around 5-6 degree and full load below 55 degree Celsius didn’t harmful or shorten your CPU life at all.

From 1-3 l’d like to say intel trying to do their best solution for vulnerable mitigation. Hope you all don’t be panic on Idle temp *increased*
and enjoy your CPU performance. Cheerful.*
