New 9800X

Just updated to bios 1603 and wanted to try out the new CPUs. Ordered a 9800X from SL @ 4.9. I have a hefty Uncore offset for my current memory. I question if this is needed with the new chip. Any ideas?

Is that by XMP?
I dont worry much about the ram. Ive always got good sticks that can take 1.5V no worries and run them at the 1.35

Hows that chip doing? Im in the middle of installing everything in a new case with a new 9940X. Ran it on a box top for a few days getting it all configured and got 4.6 very easy and ran a few rounds of real bench at 4.7 before shutting it down to get it in the case with some decent cooling.

Do you know "G.Skill F4-3600C16D Trident Z RGB Led DDR4 3600Mhz CL16" sticks should run on what voltage on XMP ?

I’m due to receive it in a few days. Doing the prep work. I’ll let you know. Thanks. Yes, that’s with XMP.

The uncore offset is dependant on the CPU, so you will have to tune to find a suitable value.

That’s what I was thinking. The new chip may not require any offset. I’m going to leave it on auto with the Corsair memory in my signature and see what happens. Thanks.

I got my 9900X around a week ago, and it is so much worse than my old 7900X. Can't even run CB at 4.8 GHz at any voltage...4.7 CB is already 1.3 V territory. 4.5 GHz requires over 1.2 V and then the voltage curve ramps up. So much for overclocking that one. Hmm, I wonder if it would suddendly just die out of the blue. 😛

Old one in my 2nd PC was a delidded 7900X which could run up to 5050 MHz CB on cold water. But before that one I had a very bad 7900X too which I could replace with the better one (that didn't even run 4.5 GHz Prime on water). 😄

There's no efficiency changes with this refresh, so expect similar overclocking range between samples (temps permitting).

4.8 on a 7900x was a golden chip. Less than 10% could obtain that. I paid for mine to get to 5GHz on water at 1.225 but it runs too hot.*
Any particular reason you stayed with the same chip albeit a little more cache? Could be you lost the lottery. Ive not spent much time with my new 9940X, just in a box top with a 280 rad and it went to 4.6 on all cores with ease. Pretty much just set it to sync all cores, XMP and adaptive to 1.2V then unlimited power and LLC to 3. Ran realbemch on a loop for about an hour no issues. I’d be happy with 14 cores at 4.5 but think I’m going to get at least 4.7 if not 4.8. When I’m done with the refresh rebuild I’ll have 2x 480 rads, a 280 rad and a 360 rad for cooling. I don’t think I can do much better without going past that with a chiller or even more extreme. *

Definitely lost the lottery with the 9900X. Well, it's in my secondary PC with a simple 360mm loop, using the 7980XE direct-die cooled in my main PC.

When setting up adaptive to 1.2 V, did you check it won't go over that? Since if the VID is higher on the cores you'd need to use negative offset with adaptive. I've used only manual voltage yet with this chip.
