To monoblock or not to monoblock?

I don't think this IHS is transferring the heat as well as a stock IHS, I think i might test the stock IHS or just put the copper one back on, I got idle temps of 20c and lower on the copper IHS 29c is the lowest idle i see.

Ah yes weird, Rockit Cool told me that in "general", with the IHS copper we could win up to 6°, and can be up to 5° with the IHS Nickel compared to the original IHS

Yeah right now temps are about the same as a soldiered 9980XE so the plating might be a issue, Ill be testing soon so ill report back.

Same OC with copper IHS hands down the nickel is crap lol, it can't transfer heat no were as well as the copper IHS.

Yeah Orange for Copper and I emailed them about one and ordered it that way, looking at the temps there are some cores with up to 8c difference on a high overclock that 8c really maters, maybe they should of just plated the bottom part might be worth seeing if sanding the top off helps.

If only I could safely sand the CPU die to make it perfectly flat I am 100% sure I could totally end temp discrepancies between cores once and for all but I don't want to damage the CPU.

Anyway, my last attempt with 14X48 Cores @ 4.8Ghz is still working so I have to say that I am done with this platform on the CPU side until something really new comes out (i.e. DDR5, PCI-E 4/5). I could always get an 18 Core CPU but it is not "cores" that my workflow is lacking - I would like even higher clocks or higher single core performance.

I will build a second "backup" machine with a 9900K after I see what Zen 2 is all about. I already got the Case + PSU + several watercooling parts and will leave MB/CPU/RAM for the end.

My monoblock is sitting tight and clean in its box until I figure out what to do with it (decorative item)...at least I am still using the Aquantia chip heatsing from it and will soon use it's RGB strips one of which is addressable (lol @ Aura with this though).

I sanded my 7980XE die a few months back it did help drop some of the higher cores down guessing these are the ones that are lower and have less contact, I used 2000 grit wet sand paper as long as you take your time there is no risk just don't sand down to far and you be fine, the lowest point i stop at just to be safe, I took the risk but ill rather have stable temps so I think it was worth the risk.
