Der8auer is not the only one the first to the party. Iceman DD frames have been around for awhile. Performance PCs carries them but don’t know all the support. I know they go to 7900X but not sure of the rest. Der8auer stuff relates to unicorns. Non existent fantasy. I don’t get the marketing pump up of devices they don’t deliver. Starving the market trying to keep the price up in most instances only leads to demise. Patents don’t mean a whole lot. I take someone else’s product, modify it a little then patent the modification of it. All a game. *

I also decided to go with direct die cooling and I ordered an EK Velocity + VRM block and all the other parts (tubes, Bitspower fittings, the cables and the direct die frame.....I have received everything since December except the Skylake Direct Die kit from Caseking. This damn item is missing ETA after ETA and here I am having spend close to $700 on new parts and not being able to proceed with the upgrade.

At this point (after 2 months) I am worried that the Skylake-X frame might never reach me although I mailed another vendor and they told me that the stock is limited and by the time they receive some it all goes out in back-orders.

Is there another Direct die frame I could get should this order is canceled? I am really tired of waiting right now....
Buy your self a ICeMancooler just do a ebay search for "Die Guard Delid Relid Delidding 2066" and a few will come up there all the same at the end of the day.

Yes I've seen the Ice Man frames but are they reliable? For such a thing precision is needed and although I agree with JustinThyme about their marketing practices none denies their product quality and precision. Ice Man is Chinese I guess and I've had bad experiences with such items from them in past when it comes to CNC machined parts. Their problem is not the design usually but production TQM and consistency.

With that said, Ice Man offeres and SKU for HCC Skylake-X CPUs but since I am in Greece the shipping time is 25 days - which sucks. I might give them till next Wednesday and then I will order from ebay or Alli Express an Ice Man.

So anyone had some experience with the Ice Man frame? I've read in Overclock.net that some users had to modify it in order to fit the HCC CPUs but this might have been a case that they ordered the 7900X version that has a smaller opening.

They have been around for a long time and yeah make sure you order the correct model, as for reliable I know people that have used them with no issues there just a frame that sits flash with the die and keeps the CPU pinned down there fairly simple.

I'm going with a copper IHS just because i paid for the monoblock and it does look good haha.

Looks like we will have a variety of situations here. I hope both of you share the difference of direct die and the new ihs with the monoblock. I'll be using the new ihs with seperate water cooled vrms. I'll check the vrm temp before tare down. See if it makes much of a difference compared to the monoblock.

I did compare the copper IHS with the factory one which hasn't been removed off my 7940x and it is the same height so should be interesting to see how the temps are with the monoblock after.

    For 7980XE, it's this one ?

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Delid-Die-G...IVRm:rk:2:pf:0

I tried the one of der8auer, but after several attempts, impossible to have correct temperatures on 3 or 4 cores
I know that the PCB of CPU needs to be cleaned very well and I think it's good

What I like about the ICE model is that we can keep the backplate of the original socket
    Sorry for my english

What do you mean by "correct temperatures on 3 or 4 cores"???

Does this mean that your block was not making 100% even contact? It could be not the frame's fault though and that's what I mean by saying "these things need precision"..Even the slightest deviation on the heights (frame against the CPU silicon + block) can cause less than ideal contact.

Anyway, I am so freaking pissed when I am asking for an ETA from Caseking and what I get is canned answers like:

    SALES REP

I can ask someone for sure, but when the system says that there is no ETA this person I could ask would tell me the same. If there is something new then the system will be updated.
    BY WHO??????? GOD?????

I of course told him to ask the supplier of this product and not someone else in the company......how ridiculous not being able to freaking find out when the hell your supplier is going to deliver for the last 2 months.....at the same time they are getting stocked in other der8auer direct frames for 9900Ks....

    @Stock, I have 30° more on 3 or 4 cores
With the OC, a Cinebench reboots the PC

There is a bad contact I think, but I do not know where it comes from
I have seen some have to machine the frame of der8auer, because of a bad contact

I was advised to use thermal paste and see if the contact is uniformly
But I admit that the framework of ICE and be able to keep the backplate of origin (socket) will suit me

You used LM on the underside of the waterblock too to cover the size of the die?*
