To monoblock or not to monoblock?

Yeah I just lent a delid tool off a local forum member and just paid postage, the rest of stuff I already had seeing this was my 4th CPU I've done, if you cpu has already been delidded you don't need the tool at all just keep that in mind to.

You should restate that, "If I alraedy delidded it _I_ don't need a redelidding tool. I'm not sure what adhesive was used by Silicone lottery to put it back together and I THINK they used liquid metal as the TIM. I have neither. Quite honestly without some sort of guide with the delidding tool. I'm afraid I wouldn't get the CPU back on right. Maybe I could work something out with SL if I sent my CPU back with this copper IHS sink they'd just slap it on?

While I'm not expecting 10 degrees cooler on all cores, i'm hoping to bring the outlying cores more towards the rest of the group when under load.

Haha yeah, I'm pretty sure if you asked them what they used you could work around it and I'm pretty sure they just tac the corners on, as for the relid guide you coild make your own pretty easy.


10c max between cores I wouldn't say is abnormal, 15c+ then there is something wrong there for sure.

SL actually uses some pretty heavy duty sheet and its all the way around. Some scorn them for this saying it causes heat retention. They defend their position with keeping the liquid metal from seeping out.

Holy **** that's a mess lol the main point of delidding is to remove the silicon not to add more LMAO, did you end up cleaning that up? that's way to much LM O_o.


My 7940x seems like a lemon 4.5ghz on 1.19v so far, tried for 4.6ghz but 1.25v wasn't even stable sad times.

Clean as a whistle :thumb:
SL leaves the Intel crap too which is why they use a lot of LM and it drips/ runs down over time and shipping is their excuse for the excessive amount and mono block compatibility they use ups slinging packages around like a Frisbee doesn't help

Either way my temps were totally out of line all silicon lottery said it was normal and they do not recommended redoing it I wounder why lol

They did however finally say they would redo the delid for more money of course but by then I totally lost confidence in their ability to actually redo it since they were aliment it was normal so I did it myself.

I've also found using offset or adaptive offset I have some "I call lazy cores"
One of which is one that Intel is calling the best with the * tag
Once I dial that lazy core which uses less vid than many others and also the second * tagged core is it stabilizes a lot better

My VID's can vary by 0.025
Lowering that gap can help quite a bit or really raising the low vid closer to the others and lowering the highest a little too sort of split the vid differences.

That's good to hear, yeah I've tried adaptive on my 7940x and some cores run between 1.23 - 1.28v and there's no way to even them out it seems, I try to test with a manual voltage then try to setup adaptive but with that time of jump I mite have to stay with manual.

Just logged into overclock.net and indeed my silicon lottery thread was totally wiped out lol their bias is overwhelming obvious
EK negative feedback too unfortunately.

Yeah that's a large gap to close
Maybe a redo on the sl delid will help that vid gap.

Only good thing I noticed about mono blocks it showed the water jet horizontal instead of vertical
I use horizontal now it seems top help a little on 7900x anyway the chip is a rectangle not a square.

I will test Rockit's IHS Copper well, but I would like to be sure to have a temperature gain (and not really want to retry the Direct Die too)
