For me the copper ihs was a waste of money. Direct-die is better.

I'm not 100 % convinced I would ever do direct die with a $1000 processor. I know what it is supposed to do, I know people have done it with the 7900x but it seems a bit newish to me and far too much room for error.

I got my monoblock when it was first released along with my pile of parts that I have yet to put together (been over a year now). I also got a de-lidded 7940X from SL last year. I'm debating on whether I should stick with the monoblock or switch to an individual VRM block and EK Velocity CPU block. After reading through this thread I'm still on the fence.

You have more patience than me. No way I could sit on a build for a year. I can hardly wait for all the parts to come in, actually I get started with whatever I can. Wife thinks Im nuts when I go on a building binge. Ill get started and not stop until its done.......3 days and about 20 gallons of coffee is about my record.
A big moron and a little moron were sitting on a fence, the big moron fell off.....why didnt the little one?

I took my main rig offline to rebuild it with new parts. I transferred my old parts into a temporary case (View 75) with an AIO until I get the other one 'refreshed'.
I have all the parts but I've been procrastinating. Don't feel like cleaning rads and bending hard tube right now and starting all over with tweaking a windows install. I'll have to get to it at some point.
I bench tested all the parts when I got them so I know everything works. I'll probably end up going with separate blocks though.

Nah, I didn't skip reading. I was saying earlier it didn't have a negative effect for me using the original ihs. But I figured it would be a fun test. The ihs will be here Saturday. Gonna take apart all my blocks and pump, clean everything real good. Re apply LM and get it going. Gonna be snowed in all weekend so I'll actually have some time on my hands. Hopefully I can get up and going by monday.

After running 8-9 months with my undelided 7940X and an EK monoblock I decided it was time to do "something" about it (delid) and also revamp the interior of my case by switching to hard line tubes and add some neat custom cables from Pexon. I also decided to go with direct die cooling and I ordered an EK Velocity + VRM block and all the other parts (tubes, Bitspower fittings, the cables and the direct die frame.....I have received everything since December except the Skylake Direct Die kit from Caseking. This damn item is missing ETA after ETA and here I am having spend close to $700 on new parts and not being able to proceed with the upgrade.
At this point (after 2 months) I am worried that the Skylake-X frame might never reach me although I mailed another vendor and they told me that the stock is limited and by the time they receive some it all goes out in back-orders.
Is there another Direct die frame I could get should this order is canceled? I am really tired of waiting right now....Asus Rampage VI Extreme | i9-7940X | 64GB Trident Z RGB 3600 | Asus Strix 1080Ti OC | Samsung 960 Pro 512GB | WD Gold 10TB | WD Red 4TB X 2 | PSU Corsair AX1500i | Custom Water Loop - RAD MO-RA3 420 Pro | EK Monoblock | Phanteks GPU Block | Heatkiller 200 Tube RES | EK Dual D5 Revo Pumps | 9 X Corsair ML 140 Pro Fans on RAD | | Bitspower Fittings Black Chrome | Cooler Master Cosmos 2 Modded Case | Silent WIngs 3 120mm Intake |
