I think it really depends on the convexity of the IHS and this must not be the same across all CPUs. Maybe I give it a try but most certainly there is no way that it performs better than Standalone block & direct die cooling. It looks better I guess but I am designing something to make the transition pretty...lol.

Can't beat direct die. I'm sure it will work out good. I've never done direct die before. Been too paranoid I would crack the PCB lol. Plus I see a lot of complaints about the LM not reacting well with direct contact to blocks.

Yet, even with "Kyonaut" paste it would still be better than with the IHS. You are removing an extra thermal layer after all. Now to avoid cracking the die, you need on of those direct die frames and of course a lot of care while mounting.

Please update with OC and thermal difference after you direct die. I'm very interested in seeing the difference.

I will do so but the damn thing has no ETA besides a 16/01/2019 which is not even certain.....I have it back-ordered and paid for since the 20th of November.....All the other items are here (delid tool, liquid tape, new waterblocks, new fittings for hard tube, tubes, RGB led strips / Halos...).....all these goodies and I can't proceed because of the freaking frame!

Looking forward to your DD post. Might get a microATX and yank the lid back off my 7900X to see if I can go past the 5GHz brick wall and run two systems in the same case or just leave it in a test bed. I’d like to get a pair of 2080TIs but not at the price point they are going for. 1080TI still beats 2080 by a good bit and I got mine before the darn crypto mining got out of control and seriously killing the consumer market segment. *All greedy. One would think they would limit the miners purchases so the rest of the world can get GPUs. When you get these outfits cleaning out entire supplies in one click it kills more than the GPU market. Who wants to spend for the lastest hi res games when you can’t get a card to run them?

I was seriously looking at replacing the 1080Ti's with 2080Ti's...(need SLi my OCD)..but north of $4K for 2 GPU's and Blocks is ridiculous!!!! nv really put the screws to us this generation.....as you said there are no options out there to replace a 1080Ti right now except a $1.7K Card .....sure hope this price isnt the norm now....I got my 1080Ti's before the Crypto Mining craze as well.....$875 CAD .....makes me cringe looking at the cost of the new Cards....used to be the Titans that were ridiculously priced....now the Ti's .....

I see that no one has mentioned the rockit custom IHS plate, they made it with increased height that accounts for the decrease from delidding.

I'm actually considering delidding and putting the custom IHS on, as I'm currently running 7900X with the EK monoblock at 4.8GHz on my best core, rest cores are 4.6GHz without delid. Temperatures are alright but occassionally the 4.8GHz core does hit 90 degrees.

Heat has alaways been the issue. Difference in height is just another reason not to use a monoblock. They have a specific distance they sit off the motherboard that can’t be changed without meticulously removing the stand offs them you have to also look at the fact that this will decrease the distance on the VRM end of it. Using a separate blocks alleviates this as a CPU only block floats on the IHS and held pressure from springs. The his attribute of a monoblock is something I never did care for.*
