The original board works fine with my aura, at least the effects I use. I'm really unsure about this board myself. The aesthetics are nice, I like the matte black heat shield. I'm with you however trying to figure out what the market is for this board? I'll leave VROC out of the discussion because that isn't really Asus' fault that VROC is so crippled on the x299 platform and with the new Intel m.2 drives, putting two M.2 drives + an optane drive should be plenty for most. I really wonder how much longer U.2 connectors will be around as it is clear the m.2 form factor has won this battle. The biggest bother with me is the one less PCI-e slot. An x299 board is really meant for 44 Pci-e lanes and taking out one full slot that is really hampering a lot of current builds in the x99 platform from upgrading to this board. I think there is still the option to use the small mini fan on the VRM but I think you are right that a separate VRM waterblock is going to have to be really custom to fit up there but that is EK's issue or Alphacool, not Asus'. I do think that a good heat sink will still adequately cool the VRM without the need of a fan or separate water block.Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

Where did you find them in stock brand new? the only ones I was able to find were used. I was trying to buy an extra extreme because I think I'm sticking with this platform for a long time, and because the longer time goes the more rare the board is to find. Seems like everyone is holding on to it, so I wanted an extra as back up*

B&H had them. I added it to my cart while they were closed for a Holiday. I got an email saying that I could now pay for my order and when I followed the link, the boards were gone. I'm ready to give up and stick with my Strix board as Asus clearly doesn't have the stock to fulfill demand unless you want an entry level board with terrible VRM design.

JustinThyme: "Regardless of aesthetics the only plausible market for this board would be people who dont want to OC, only run one GPU and dont want to run VROC."
I agree with the GPU and VROC parts, but this board could be great for overclocking. The safemode and retry buttons are carried in from the OC-oriented boards. The extra space between CPU and the first PCIe slot is just what I need for a dry ice/LN2 pot.
Compared to the R6A, I'm attracted to this board for the VRM improvements -- but for one thing. The OC Panel connection is gone. Some means of externally altering the OC during operation -- the functionality not necessarily the OC Panel per se -- has been there since at least R4E. Just yesterday, I needed that functionality. The board I had to get to replace the unavailable R6A doesn't have any such, so I had to settle for what that mobo could do. Same case would have happened with the Omega. The trend also has the Maximus XI family separating from the OC Panel functionality that has been a distinct advantage of ASUS motherboards for overclocking. I'm wondering whether there are enough advantages left for me to choose ASUS.

The board has two onboard M.2 slots and another two on the DIMM.2 module, totalling four, which means it can run VROC and two graphics cards. The board overclocks fine, too. The DIMM slot latches are a bit obscure, so thats the only thing you got right. Well, not quite. Getting memory into the slots is fine. You need to use the supplied tool to unlatch it when removing it, though.Last edited by Raja@ASUS; 01-21-2019 at 07:33 AM.
