US tariffs have nothing to do with the UK where the going rate is £650 which at today's exchange rate is $850. The Newegg price is actually $750 but they are sold out, the $850 is a different seller. Cant even begin to try and figure out the percentage these days with the HTS that is thicker than a dictionary. Cost of other good sold here havent really moved. Tarrifs needed to go up to level the playing field. 2017 it was generalized and a mere 1.67% Without going to deep into an economics debate its not rocket science why the US economy went into the toilet inversely with China's now booming economy. No one expects an advantage here, just a level playing field. Hard to do when China buys precisely no US goods leaving trade deficits in the trillions. Cant hardly call a one way street fair trade.

Bottom line is ASUS has a product they want to market at a set price. Either it will go over well if the demand is kept by starving the market or it wont.

Having just dumped $3K on cards whose prices are driven by a severely starved market its a pay to play in the HEDT arena.

Tariffs are definitely having an effect from 18 months ago. That being said our Canadian dollar is at .70 cents to the US dollar and like .57 to the GPB and .66 to the EURO. SO not only do we pay MORE for the same item, then we gotta pay brokerage so that $550 motherboard that I got for $700, cost me $900 after brokerage fees and shipping! So either as you say people will buy them or in about 3 months we'll see massive discounts. My guess is they will pull back stock on the R6E too cause that is standard business practice and what I'd do. So yeah. Refresh can go sit in its corner of the world ... I'm good.

Now Asus if you can get a 4k monitor with G-sync, that is 32 inches, has HDR and can run game at over 120FPS AND cost less that 2,000 dollars CANADIAN!! You have my attention. NO? Okay I'll go wait in the corner again.

Yeah, it was pricey. I paid $799 shipped from Amazon. Microcenter had the R6VI E for $519 but they seemed to sell out instantly. I don't mind paying a bit more as long as I get a board to finish this build. I guess I could have waited a month or 2 but...nevermind, I am too impatient. :P

I seem to remember a few people got theirs from "Walmart" of all places. I got mine through the now defunct NCIX from the USA side since Canada didn't have them in stock at the time.

US tariffs didnt go up that much, they just actually exist now and vary depending on goods. Before recently it was a flat 1.67% which is nothing. Its certainly not up by 30% and currently the tarriff increase from 10% to 25% is suspended for 90 days beginning Jan 1 pending trade talks. Increased tarriffs are only proposed to neuter the MASSIVE trade deficit. Easy solution. Fair trade means both countries buy from each in equal amounts. For the last 20 years or more its been all a one way street and those days are over. Things like blatant IP theft and ghost shifts where you one can buy a chinese made car with a chinese label and take a door from that car and put it on the Mercedes from which the IP was stolen and its an exact fit. Here is a list of 50 such car IP thefts. This also is coming to an end.

Its certainly not coincidence that China has a booming economy while the US Economy went into the toilet. Jobs and tax corporate tax revenue are already coming back now that there is no profit margin increase to manufacture in China.

Yeah I was one that got mine from Wally World online a bit under the going rate for $560.

The Newegg price is a bit lower than others, by $100. Guess the Egg is not subject to tariffs. They just run out of stock quickly and some of the high prices are the usual price gouging practices when products are launched and in limited supply. Sometimes the supply is limited by a demand well past the supply, others its the manufacturer starving the market intentionally. Im thinking the latter has a huge part......tried buying the R6E lately? They are now non existent not because they are bad boards with no one buying them but because that option is being intentionally removed from the field of competition to force this one.

You can blame BREXIT for the weak pound to US$ exchange rate.. Everything in the UK have become less affordable. Oh well..
