I’ve had my asus RoG laptop for almost 5 years now. The battery is inside the laptop and isn’t easy to remove. I’d need to take it apart. Anyways, just recently I’ve noticed my battery charge isn’t at 100% when fully plugged in. I’ve never had it unplugged to use it in it’s full life span.*

I went on vacation this week and forgot my charging cable. So I went through a old box and found a plug that fit but wasn’t thinking I could damage my laptop. It’s been a stressful week and my mind has been mush. So when I attempted to plug it in it instantly powered down. *Now home and with my original cord, my battery led light on the front of the laptop remains a soild orange light for the battery. It powers up for a few seconds.. then Powers off. Now it won’t even power on like the battery is dead. Did I fry my battery? Or something worse?!

It would be helpful to identify what model ASUS laptop you have.

Is the status light illuminated on the charging brick when plugged into the laptop? Can you verify the voltage of the charging brick with a voltmeter?
