All I see
Spectre patch enabled : poor performance
Spectre patch disabled : good performance
Retpoline enabled: good performance (the same as with the Spectre patch disabled)
But to do tests to see!!
I had not seen, but since May 14, retpoline is enabled by default under Windows

In your own link they say:
"Since Retpoline is a performance optimization for Spectre Variant 2, it requires that hardware and OS support for branch target injection to be present and enabled. Skylake and later generations of Intel processors are not compatible with Retpoline, so only Import Optimization will be enabled on these processors."
Meaning if u have a skylake of later Intel CPU, it won't work, and Registry will not include the keys for Retpoline by default, unless u force them manually, which is a waste of time since it neither works ...
So your tests are worthless using a 7980xe, same for a 7820x!!!

ok that's good
anyway, I disable the spectre patch in the registry, no importance for Retpoline
I was just pointing out that there was no loss of performance with Retpoline enabled in the registry
And for those who are interested
Registrey key for disabled Spectre/Meltdown patch
Registry key for Retpoline (same performance as the Spectre/Meltdown patch disabled)
For the little parenthesis

back after almost 1 week or so heres the weird behavior that happened to my system after 2/3 days of being on bios 1602mc49 :
3 days after i installed the bios 1602 mc49 (and mcu 5E on windows) suddenly i got a freez while i was in bios working then i had to power off and on again after that F1 and bios again bam another freez off and on again i headed straight to windows and the first 10 secs of booting into windows the 3rd freez i turned of system and cleared cmos went bios freez again cmos again went bios freez again turned off and REFLASHED BIOS using the same bios 1602mc49 went bios and windows freez again turned off system and switched to my second bios 0601 and headed windows and re formatted my usb to active partition ((was happy that system not freezing on bios 2 so it wasnt hardware issue)) then REcopied the healthy 1602mc49 bios on it and sweitched to bios 1 again cleared cmosed and REFLASHED the bios again booted in bios and wow freez again,,,,,,,,
the only thing came to my mind was to re-flash bios to the last stable bios 1503 i had and bam no more freez and back to normal again i even started to check if its becuz of spectre disabled or reptoline disabled/enabled it was none of that i even flashed 1602 MC49 4 times and i was still getting FREEZES it was so weird and unbelievable that whats going on what happened suddenly because it was all good for like 2 3 days i dont know if it was some sort of attack or any screws from somewhere
i was so scared i though i had burned the cpu like the cpu cache or something becuz i was runing memtest and aida64 sveral times for my overclock settings,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOW im just on bios 1503mc43 and have doubt if i should even go for the latest bios 1902 with latest microcode60/64 or anything else.....!!!!
and for the whole Entire week i was instaling a new fresh windows 10 pro 1903 (OS BUILD 18362.356) and installing all chipset/mei/........... system drivers adjusting configuring and re installing my whole pc life back again updated and fresh with even all win10 apps removed and tweaked as much as was possible still going on....took lotof time and i was busy also...... and now that i did this fresh install to make sure theres no corruption/failure happening to software side of things. ((not updated windows microcode from 4D to 5E YET ))
SO :O what was that ??!!! whats happening ?!!:|Last edited by Caipirinha; 09-25-2019 at 03:56 PM.
