I flashed my R6EE with a BIOS with uCode 3003 (from June - latest) for my core i9 10980 XE and I can confirm that the latest uCode 3003 does STILL NOT support TSX instructions (HSE Hardware Lock Elision and RTM Restricted Transaction Memory) . The TSX instruction set were disabled in all uCodes released this year due to the side channel attacks that were uncovered last year. In other words Transactions can lose up to 40% in performance loss with TSX disabled- say if you use SQL (like I do) or other databases.
I was hoping that they've found a way to enable them safely again since 7980XE seams to have gotten TSX back in the latest uCode, but it looks like 10980XE is a lost cause - for now...

    Very disappointing.

10980XE Focus on refined process of 14++ nm (Intel lastest optimized node before 10+nm SuperFin) which also use on Gen 10 Comet Lake S Series.
Benefit of those node as you see were higher clock speed higher TDP headroom and overclock ability. For the product itself Cascade lake X had some
hardware based mitigation for Spectre and Meltdown but it still had other issues after release.

The issues after hardware based mitigation above were not found on Skylake X (78XX-79XX) and Skylake X Refresh (98XX-99XX).
So it will take sometime to address these issues.

Just like Skylake X Itself start from initial microcode 0200001A on 2015 to 02006A08 on 2020.

yeah, it's disappointing that the "latest" most high end core i9 CPU = 10980XE is still not fixed almost 1 year after release! I feel abandoned by Intel.

Anyway, I saw in some earlier pages that you have a 7980XE on R6E and that you have a modded 3105 with uCode 6A08 and latest EFI Intel VROC with VMD module = 7.5.0.1030 .

Can you share that modded R6E 3105 BIOS please.

    Thank you!

The modded BIOS for my system had only Skylake X microcode because of I didn't plan to use Cascadelake X.
Master tistou77 modded bios should be better option due it contained both Skylake X and Cascadelake X lastest microcode.

No problem, I modded a R6E 3105 myself with latest everything using UBU (not hard just takes time).

10980XE vs 7980XE uCode comparison and state

yes I can also confirm that 7980 on R6E with lastest uCode: CPUID: 50654 (7980XE): 6A08 have TSX enabled and it's quite performant actually (yes TSX has been enabled on the last few uCodes for a while now but performance has also improved with every new uCode).

Looks to me that a delidded water cooled 7980XE is actually better than a 10980XE both in terms of temps (because it can be delidded and water cooled direct die/liquid metal) and therefore run at around the x48 multiplier with reasonably low AVX2/AVX512 offset 3/4 AND with TSX on (less crippled than 10980XE) at reasonable temps. I have 2 systems one with 7980XE/R6E and one with 10980XE/R6EE and the direct die 7980XE performs better in my case, especially with transactional work loads (SQL)... but also with AVX512. My 7980XE is running at low negative offset and is calculating accurately. I can get my 10980XE to run AVX512 with better offsets BUT the result is not mathematically correct - so while the 10980XE does not blue screen or crashes, the AVX512 miss calculates at low AVX512 negative offsets. To get the 10980XE to calculate correctly all the time you need to significantly lower the AVX2/AVX512 negative offsets (like 7, 8 or even 9) to the point that they are higher than the 7980XE. In other words my 7980XE wins over the 10980XE in in AVX512 work loads too.

I am actually really happy with my 7980XE now - finally. Took some time but with all the firmware upgrades over the last few years they actually got it to where it should have been to start with. stable as a rock 24/7 at all core at x48, AVX2/AVX512 results are 100% accurate 100% of the time and database work is snappy with 100% transactional integrity 100% of the time (TSX helps there). VROC on 905Ps also helps tremendously of course - is becoming a mature technology.

Sadly, I think 10980XE needs more work to get to the 7980XE level (in terms of bugs fixes, security and performance). Feels like 10980XE uCode is a year behind the uCode of 7980XE.

AND obviously, use at your own risk! It works for me though.
