7980XE have TSX enabled since many f/w release back now (e.g. uCode: 0068, 6901, 6A08). SQL performs well (I assume other DB systems that are using TSX also performs well but I have not tested that).
10980XE have TSX disabled in the uCodes released this year (uCode: 2F00, 2F01, 3003), and yes SQL performance is, in my experience, disastrous compared to initial release BIOS! Don't remember right now but I think 002C was the last ok - have to check...
And the story gets worse: the 10980XE performs worse with every new uCode (have not done formal comparison ucode/ucode for every combination I just know that every time I "upgrade" the R6EE/10980XE to the latest uCode, the performance goes down. Should probably do a formal comparison BIOS over BIOS since it's just not uCode that matters but also other BIOS modules (VROC, IRST etc).
I think I've been patient but I am getting tired of this. Intel has had almost a year to get things right - A YEAR. By now things should be getting better not worse for Cascade Lake - X.Last edited by Int8bldr; 09-25-2020 at 03:31 PM.

TSX the family name for the transaction services machine instruction set that primarily comes into use with transactions that are heavily used by database access and database servers. it consists to HLE (Hardware Lock Elision) and RTM (Restricted Transactional Memory) instructions etc, etc...
the objective of TSX is to get maximum # of simultaneous transaction through at 100% transaction integrity 100% of the time.
You can also use TSX when every you are having a shared resource (a server) that are being simultaneously used by multiple clients. like the Client/Server model in computer science terms, e.g. transaction monitors would use TSX to improve performance.
so yeah it's for SQL but more...

the 0702 BIOS I posted above (and here again: https://mega.nz/file/6wg3maQK#l2vIII...Nsb4aPSQrQMzJo) for Asus Rampage VI Extreme Encore works for all CPUs with CPUID 50657 and that includes the 10940XE.
so you can go a head an use flash back to flash, but as always AT YOUR OWN RISK. save your profiles to a USB key before so you can load your old BIOS settings back after flashing.Last edited by Int8bldr; 09-26-2020 at 11:03 PM.
