Hi all. I am trying to overclock my cpu on my maximus ix formula but I cant seem to get it to work. need some advice. the best I have got so far that is not confiermd stable is 4.7ghz at 1.29v. i first tried 1.25 and system would not boot so i tried 1.29 and system boots. ran prime95 26.6 as I hear the new versions are not ment for i7 7700ks because of avx or something. anyways I ran that for 30 mins and my temps were 80c under HWM i wanted to try 5ghz. so i tried 1.35 for the voltage. system will boot into windows but running prime for just 2 mins and my system will crash. i then tried to lower the ratio to 49..and still system crashes at 1.35v after 1 or 2 mins of prime running...im wondering if I have configerd something wrong in my bios.. or if i should try a diff stress test program like OCCT or aida64 but im not sure what to do at this point and could do with some help. here are my specs along with the settings I changed when trying to overclock. everything els i left at auto if i left anything out feel free to correct me..thanks

try LLC 6 or 7
and you can also use latest prime95 29.5 build 9 http://www.mersenne.org/ftp_root/gimps/p95v295b9.win64.zip

na I read on a fourm that using latest prime wil damage these cpus. that's why I used 26.6 anything later then that is a no go for this chip from what I read.

myths are just spreading over the internet 🙂 i ran the latest version many times since november and my processor is still alive, probably some magic
but run whatever you want, just set higher LLC

I thought level 1 was the highest. I was on 3 and I did try 2. but same thing happens. you sure there are not any other settings on bios that I left out when overclocking?

level 1 does deepest vdroop which is not suitable for overclocking
from other settings - you should use adaptive voltage instead with 1,35V, keep spread centrum and speedstep enabled + core cache current limit at auto

ah ok I did not try that but I thought spread spectru mand speedstep were supposed to be disabled when overclocking.
