For The Intel RST Are There Drivers Only?

SlackROG
Level 10
For the Intel Rapid Stoage on the Asus site; IRST15.7.1.1015_RS2_20170718

Is there a way to get these as drivers only without the GUI Management front-end for this thing, and all this bloat?

I've personally never used the Management GUI, don't see much of a point to it, just something running in the background sucking up some resources I personally don't need....

So if we can just get drivers only, I'd like to know?

Thanks

P.S. By the way, many people out there not using these? I wonder if there is really an advantages here, from what I read in the past, they are suppose to improve performance, I have a Samsung 840 & 850 Pro, thinking maybe not to install them this time around and see how Win7 performs without them, bet I won't notice anything... LOL... hmm

IT doesn't appear 15.7.1.1015 has specific driver only package. Intel previously always release the all in one package with driver plus console and a driver only which is usually labeled something like "Ff6flpy-x64.zip". You download, extract, and load it through device manager.

An example, the older but still usable 14.8.16.1063 Date: 10/22/2018 has the package here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/26759/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-...

Another example, 15.9.0.1015 Date: 11/14/2017 here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27400/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interf...

The driver only package is also available at www.asus.com... version 15.7.1.1015. The driver is stored in the "driver" folder then 64bit folder. Again it just loads in place of the standard microsoft driver via device manager. All you need to do is point the update tool at the folder location. Your motherboard and specific tested driver here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/HelpDesk_Download/

As for the console it is delay start so doesn't affect boot. The driver consumes about 80MB of memory and the console, when open, 49MB. It has some valuable monitoring tools and the console for enable or disable link state power management. The driver itself improves cache performance of SATA drives especially using smaller file types. In some cases depending on UEFI settings it also enables hot swap functionality. I use NVME M.2 as my primary storage but do install the RST driver for usage with SSD and HDD backups and misc storage.

Now that I think about it, I might of disabled the link state power management in RST UI.

So it's ok to get the latest version from Intel, Asus doesn't do anything specfic to it for this board?

Hmm 15.9.0.1015 is Dated 11/14/2017 sheesh haven't put out anything newer, maybe there's nothing to improve I guess... LOL

Thanks
