What is this Part? [Onboard Heatsink]

Hey,

I just took out what I thought was blocking my access to M.2_1(SOCKET3). What is its function otherwise? E.g. does it protect graphics card from heat generated by something under? It *was* sort of warm when I got it out (freshly turned off).

Its just for looks a cosmetic shield for your M.2 Drive.

By its weight, it feels like sort of a heatsink thing. Could it be that it can be used as a solid cooling for a PCIe SSD?

What's on the other side? If you see a thermal pad covered by a peel-off plastic...then it also acts as a heatsink...
