Asus Crosshair 6 Hero and slow Samsung 970 evo NVME drive possible fix
Hi All,
I have had a problem with a slow Samsung M.2 drive on my Asus Crosshair 6 Hero. I could only manage 800MB read and write speed. I thought I had tried everything in BIOS but having run Samsung Magician tonite I noticed it was running PCIE Gen 1 x 4. Went into BIOS and changed the M.2 link speed to Gen 3 and all is well. Samsung Magician is now showing 3500MB/sec read speed. Write speed is a little down at 2000MB/sec but I can live with that.
I hope this is of help to others.
Mark.

I'm having the same problem for over a year now. Changing to Gen3 does not help. I can switch it to Gen2 and performance is cut to half, about 400MB/s.
I noticed that it'll be x1 when the motherboard is cold. After gaming and rebooting, it'll switch to x4.
Is yours consistently booting in x4 now? Try checking the morning when the motherboard has been off and has cooled down.
