Mmmh, this makes me think pads are not the ideal solution for this laptop heatsink for some reasons...
Better K5 Pro for VRM and small chips + good thermal paste over CPU and GPU?

Yes i was start thinking the same. How can i recognize the small chips how do they look like.

All these chips around GPU (VRAM) and CPU had white sticky paste. The other small chips around were not pasted as far as we know.

Hi sorry about the late reply to you all.

I've now had a few weeks to try and cool this bad boy down with limited success. Here is my timeline of what has been happening with my experimentation.

1.Re-pasted cpu and gpu with noctua NT-H1whilst leaving the original Asus Paste on VRM's etc. Temps rose 10c thermal throlttling in all games. Needed to set 99%CPU
CPU/GPU temps 95+c in every game.

2.Wasnt happy so cleared all paste away from cpu/gpu/vrms replaced Vrm with 1mm Thermal pads and Cpu/GPU with Termal Grizzly Kryonought. Same again Temps 98c+
Scratching my head at this point.

3.Third attempt, removed thermal pads as thought it was causing contacting issues with cpu/gpu and replaced with 0.5mm, re-applied Thermal frizzly. Guess What SAME RESULTS??

Starting to think here that its gotta be a bad heatsink, SO i eventually order 1mm copper shims, Paste regular noctua on both sides, swap out thermal pads for K5-PRO (smothered on like the videos says) my GPU temps drop to 65C! but cpu still high in the 90's

Now operating a cpu undervolt of -125mv while disabling turbo during games.

Have ordered a new heatsink online gonna fit it next week and let you all know how i get on

I think we all have to be more precise in this thread: some say "never reached more than 85°C" but then you look at pics and see spikes up to 96°C ("Max reached temp" logged)...
So, please ALWAYS specify if you still have high-spikes (90-98°C) and then the system stbilizes around a specific value and not just the final stabilized temp, since reading users saying "I'm always around 75°C" can be totally misleading when they actually reach up to 96°C in AIDA64 for example as a max temp and THEN stabilize around 75°C. If you omit much higher spikes at the beginning of the test the information will be incomplete.

I've read users that had very good temps with stock paste (lucky guys) but were pushed to re-paste uselessly because reading in forums like this they thought normal temps should have NEVER reached 92-96°C, not even as initial spikes before fans and PL-1 kick in. So please, be more precise.

Another thing: there are "lite" games like fps in general (Overwatch, Fortnite, BF, CoDs....) and others like the Rise of the Tomb Rider and its successor that can push CPU temps much higher than normal games, so please specify also the games you tested.

I play all demanding games, not the ones on your list and I never had problems with temperatures maximum 86(CPU) 76(GPU) both on the balance and on the overboost, the only difference is that in some games with the overboost it is higher FPS. Maybe because I use a laptop stand(it's down 5 degrees). I also have stock paste and use the lowest possible undervolting.

Try to play Rise of the Tomb Raider at 90fps+ and see it can reach up to 90°C+, THEN it stabilizes to 85-88 when in PL1 after 20secs. And specify your games please...
