It's working. I am not saying I am getting better clocks, but the shunt mod is working because the card according to GPU Z pulls significantly less power than it did stock.

I tried the witcher 3 in 1440p DSR 240Hz just a little with a very moderate offset overclock of +70. I didn't pay too much attention and then I noticed that the card reached 88°C in a few minutes.
The card is pulling obviously much more power than the cooler is designed to cool. So the shunt mod IS working however there is no way one can benefit from it on the stock cooler at least not with the fan on auto as you'll hit thermal throttling and even without that GPU boost downclocks the card rather severely.

There IS a chance it was a poor thermal paste application but i would be really surprised as I am using kryonaut and spread it manually.
I'll add some more conductive ink any way and will fully reapply thermal paste. If the thermals don't improve that will mean that the thermals I am getting are solely due to a too large amount of power to deal with.
I would love to know more on how you accomplished that

Also it sounds like it is pretty easy to pull the card apart and put on the paste. I have seen videos of it being disassembled and reassembled.

Should I SLI 2 Matrix's or just use one ? If I use one card I can go vertical in a new design build or if I use 2 then I get SLI.. Not sure exactly how much SLI will give me. I have never SLI's any cards before. Also a little nervous if I SLI there wouldn't be much room between cards for top card air flow. What I would love some feedback from you all.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

I ran 2 strix 2080ti's in sli and it was rough. I sold them both to get the matrix. The top card would hit 86-89c at max fan speed within a few minutes of playing. My solution was to downclock the top card by limiting the power to 80 percent and add an extra noctua fan to the side of the gpus with some double sided tape. Temps stayed near 70c doing this, but performance was still incredible! like 130 fps in shadow of the tomb raider at 4k. Most of the time SLI was disabled for me though because the games im currently playing do not support it so that was a bummer. But two monster gpus did look pretty epic in the case.

Absolutly! DHL is awesome. I am never home during delivery times and they allow a signature release which is great. Sometimes its hard to get into my building so I usually have to leave detailed instructions and they never have an issue. Amazon delivery service on the other hand, and fedex both suck in that regard haha. At least in my case.

Wow sound less than optimal. this card has the radiators and I think a little more girth to them so without a fan directly blowing on them to help with airflow not sure it's a good idea.

    Thanks for the heads up.

That depends... How would you rate 4 screws and 4 cables in terms of difficulty? xD

    It's super convenient yes!
The idea of shunt mod is to trick the card into making it think it pulls less power than it actually does in order to have it pull as much as it needs and not to see the voltage and clockspeeds drop.

IF you are willing to keep the stock cooler then forget it. Its absolutely unfit for it.
In the past years the way shunt modding was done was very simple. The card measures the power that is being pulled through the power connectors with a shunt resistor.
The idea is to temper with with those shunt resistors. In the past you could just do something as simple as putting solder on them. The issue we face now is that the card is able to detect that the shunts have been tampered with and when it does it locks itself in 2D mode at 300MHz.
The way I perform the shunt mod is by using conductive ink the which has a much much smaller conductivity than tin as it's silver based. It is enough to trick the card and significantly extend the power limit but not enough for it to lock itself in 2D mode.

As a result the card can pull over 450W which it actually needs even with voltages within Nvidia's specs.
But again, DO NOT do this with a stock cooler.

It just came I have a mega "FUN" project ahead of me this weekend.. It was Technically less than 2 days to deliver. I have been sooo patiently waiting for this since February. I haven't touched a box since I was collecting components. See my pics!!

Sure thing man, I suppose if you had 4 slot spacing like what you find on the HEDT platforms the temps might be a bit better but with that extra girth from the matrix im not sure.
