I have the same exact issue of OP. Computer freeze few seconds (nothing respond and mouse cursor is locked) then all is back to normality, 1/2 hours and then again another freeze ... and so on. When problem occur, audio stuttering, then all silence and after that the pop up windows of Realtek Audio Manager appear aksing what was plugged in.

It is incredible how many users are experiencing this problem (also with differentc configs and specs), my system (almost since installation around Nov 2018, can't remember exact date) has been plague by this problem. I really tried everything possible except windows reinstallation, since many users did that and it did not work. Microsoft kb4490481 update didn't solve the problem either.

    My Specs:

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    CPU: Intel Core i9 @ 3.60GHz 35 °C Kaby Lake 14nm Technology
    RAM: 32,0GB
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) (LGA1151) 28 °C
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (ASUStek Computer Inc) 52 °C

NOTE: I have all latest drivers, BIOS and Windows update as of 04/04/2019.

I read one user solved this by changing the motherboard but my trust in Asus hardware is undestructible and i will never RMA or change supplier cause i am sure Asus is only part of the problem.

Hope in one Angel around here to save me!

I installed the Windows Update KB4490481 (Windows version 1809), but the problem persists.

This problem started with my new SSD unit. Before installing the new drive, I updated the UEFI (version 1801). It is a fresh new Windows installation, with the latest drivers. Also tried several audio driver versions (6.0.1.8507, 6.0.1.8339 and 6.0.1.8273) and the KB4490481 update. The problem remains.

The interesting thing is that I still have my old drive running, with the previous Windows installation, on wich I never had this issue. And still don´t have.

This leads me to a few conclusions:
    - It is not a UEFI issue.
    - It is unlikely a Windows issue.
    - It could be another software or driver installed on the new unit.

So, I have a few suspects:
    - Samsung NVMe driver, that is only installed on the new unit.
    - NVidia driver (video or audio), altough is the same version (418.91) on both drives.

Not all is bad news. On the new unit, I am not having more audio sync issues on Netflix.

I also disabled the Nvidia High Definition Audio device, but nothing changed.

I will perform more tests. Any ideas are welcome!

To those of you who are experiencing computer freeze issues audio driver malfunction, please read my posts from https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/co...0aq/?context=3 and my replies to thread at https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...d=1#post768524.

The root cause to freeze is unlikely the audio driver. I've already purchased an USB audio device and disabled on REALTEK audio unit on the MB. But it did not help solve the freeze. I've later verified that it is likely due to the hard drives connected to SATA port while NVMe slot is used. I've been in communication with ASUS tech support and they have been very helpful.

I took it from the HDD side of things. I switched off the caching of HDD's & indexing and uninstalled the Rapid Storage Technology. It's fine now, that annoying stuff is gone.

I think the Rapid Storage by Intel was my main problem as soon as I uninstalled it - everything stopped, try, maybe it works for you too.

@captainsteven and @ninezerofive, thank you for you ideas! I was already working on drives and power management, creating a new profile and not allowing drives to be turned off. It didn´t work, but I was taking some software off, and RST will be the next!

And yea, if I just set : Turn off hard disk after Settings (minutes) : 9999 - then it stopped as well.

That's why I was looking into the RST and the drive management.
