    Unhappy

Same issues here! On my Strix z390-E Gaming. Major problem for me as it can freeze my game or whatever I'm doing for several seconds. I've tried numerous Realtek drivers from both ASUS support site and these forums.

So how to we report this? Do report it to Asus? Realtek? Microsoft? There is clearly something that they need to fix.

According To Microsoft , Before The End Of March , There Should Be A W10 Update For The Realtek HD Audio Manager Issue
    March 12, 2019—KB4489899 (OS Build 17763.379)
" audio devices, applications that provide advanced options for internal or external audio output devices may stop working unexpectedly" "Realtek HD Audio Manager"

"Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available in late March 2019."

There have been numerous news articles about this in the past week. Recent updates for the Windows 10 Spectre security vulnerability have caused major issues and slowdowns, not just for Realtek devices. Hopefully this is the cause of our issue and we'll see a fix soon from Microsoft! The Workaround mentioned in the KB4489899 article doesn't work. Realtek HD Audio was already my default device.

One point I haven't seen yet: If you're not using the onboard audio, such as using a USB headset, then I would try turning off HD Audio altogether in the BIOS. This way the Realtek drivers will never even load in Windows.

Fingers crossed!!! Such a major issue. I really hope it's software/drivers, not a defect in the motherboard itself. I've already updated, and I'll definitely find time for a long gaming sessions this week to test.

I have the same problem. The computer freezes for a couple of seconds and the new sound device connected windows pops up. The problem only started after updating the BIOS from 1602 to 1801. I kept the BIOS configuration the same. Updating the divers to the latest version from the Asus support web site (8507_UAD_WHQL_2018_0815_NAHIMIC) did not help. Reinstalling Window and updating everything did not solve the issue.
    Computer configuration:
    Windows 10 Pr, ver 10.0.17763.404.
    Maximus Hero X (WiFi)
    i7 8700K
64GB G. Skill memory in XMP configuration
    Asus GTX 1080 Ti Strix.

In my case the problem has not been solved by the Microsoft kb4490481 update. Maybe something is wrong with the 1801 BIOS.
