USB-Cardreader

In the floppy drive bay I have installed an DeLOCK 3.5" USB 3.0 Card Reader 4 Slot USB 3.1 Gen 1 cardreader and USB box. It has the longer blue connector.
This is connected via an adapter to the onboard USB 3.1 Gen 2 connector (short connector on the side of the motherboard).
The drive is attached to a 4 pin power cable (white) too.

The drive has energy (green lamp) and can read micro-sd and sd-cards. When attaching to the USB, it can only charge devices, but no USB connection happens.

Any ideas:
Is there a max for USB for a PC, I have really many?
Will it be more a problem of adapter cable or the drive has to be send back?

The online description says it is a charging port, not a data port. Might be meant that way.

Meanwhile I tested the drive on a different port: it works correctly (only one of the three USB-A is a charging port).

Either the cable or the mainboard is defect!
I ordered another cable meanwhile. Hope the cable was the problem?
