GL704 Laptop Ram upgrade advice please

Hi All,

I have an Asus GL704 that came with 1x Samsung 16gb 2666 ram

https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/module/M471A2K43CB1-CTD/

I ask Asus AU via email, and was told they dont resell that same brand.

Can I use another brand with same specs, I ask a computer shop and was told not to mix ram, but was given this link:

https://www.mwave.com.au/product/crucial-16gb-1x-16gb-ddr4-2666mhz-sodimm-notebook-memory-ac18102

Can you please advice if i can add another 16gb ram so i can run dual channel?

or can you recommend another brand with links if you think the Crucial is not compatible?

Do i need to tweak anything in the bios?

Thank you in advanced.

Hi,
You will find it beneficial to run matched dual channel RAM, No its not ideal to run two different types as the timings may well be different (CAS RAS timings etc) and voltage requirements are also to be considered.
Yes the system should run with different types, as long as you matched the type/ timings.
There are occasions where you wont even boot.

https://www.quora.com/Can-I-mix-different-brands-of-RAM-if-they-both-have-the-same-speed-and-voltage

I myself have two new matched sticks of 16Gb SODIMM arriving to replace my 1x16Gb.
HyperX Impact 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 2666 RAM (Notebook Memory) CL15 XMP SODIMM (260-Pin) HX426S15IB2K2/32

Good luck

Well what an improvement...
2x sticks is a must do for FPS gaming!
In BFV I have gone from 1x 16Gb at 80-100 FPS
to 2x 16Gb at 130-144 FPS (Max frames)
