What gives, KMODE? i7-2600k/Maximus IV Gene-z overclock error generality

Hi!

Running into a bit of problem with my PC as far as reaching the ability to overclock successfully. *

Outside of stock speeds (where this PC runs games, internet, etc. flawlessly, idling at 21-22C), my PC-- at any memory/CPU overclock setting in BIOS -- is unable to remain stable when the PC returns to Windows. I've followed a number of guides for what settings to apply for different overclocking speeds in BIOS. None of them hold, the result being a KMODE error.

The BSOD that pops up contains "KMODE_Exception_Not_Handled", but there isn't any error specifically addressed, as if it is just some general error. I installed a new mobo battery (as this mobo was new but on a shelf since its release, currently at BIOS version 0403) and have my memory setting in BIOS on XMP but have left all other settings untouched.

I did a Safe Mode restart, to see if there was a driver in need of updating in the Device Manager; nothing comes up that needs to be addressed. I've also disabled Fast Startup.

What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated
