EVGA SR-2 or Rampage IV Extreme

I have the urge to build a new computer but cannot decide which way to go. I am a novice but have done some reading.
I would like something cutting edge that will hold it's own for a few years to come.

I'm trying to decide between the EVGA SR-2 and the Rampage IV Extreme motherboard.
If i'm going with SR-2 I've chosen 2 of X5690 with 12x8gig DDR3's (even though specs say it will only support 48gig)
If going with the Rampage IV it will be with the i7 3960x with 8x8gig DDR3's

I'm thinking that the dual processors with 12 cores and 96gig of RAM would be far superior to the Rampage configuration.
When it comes down to it, will there really be a difference in performance.

Besides the most common need for power which is games, I would also like to perform video rendering functions.

I understand through another source on line that the SR-X will soon be released which has given me reason to pause and think about waiting for the new board.

So if anyone has an opinion of which way to go, I'd appreciate reading it.

First of all... What's your primary uses?

Currently there are very few games that need more then two cores and even fewer able to see four!! This is mainly due to how most games are created, they're not coded for a desktop, most are ported to the PC from their primary platform usually a console of some description.

First of all... What's your primary uses? Only you can tell us this, once you've solved that hurdle we can guide you.

As for games: Currently there are very few games that need more then two cores even fewer able to see four and there's almost non that's able to utilise threaded processors. This is mainly due to how most games are created, they're not coded for a desktop, most are ported to the PC from their primary platform usually a console of some description. Essentially, if it's gaming your looking for, you don't need anything with hyper-threading.
