Lane allocation

I’m considering a M11E with a 9900k but I wanted to know about lane allocation. If I use a sound card in the very top x1 slot with an x16 video card in PCIe slot 1, will the video card drop to x8 if I use only 1 m.2 in the dimm.2 slot? The manual suggests it would drop to x8 since there are only 16 lanes for the CPU. The first PCIe slot would share bandwidth with the dimm.2. Correct?

GFX card goes off CPU lanes (top 2 x16 slots) the others are chipset lanes (not direct to CPU).

But the dimm.2 slot goes through the CPU as well. I suspect it will force the PCIe slots to x8.

I read this review which suggests 2 m.2 drives in the dimm.2 will decrease the PCIe slot to x8:

*“However, since this board employs a DIMM.2 it is worth noting those are CPU lanes as well so if you populate two M.2 Drives in the DIMM.2 module your main slot will drop to x8.”

So this means one drive will not decrease the PCIe slot to x8? I question whether one drive would.

I would guess yes it would, but I am not going to remove one drive from my DIMM.2 module on my Gene to verify
