so i want to get the asus rog strix b450-f gaming but my issue is i’m getting the 3600 cpu in a couple days and from my understanding i would need another cpu to update the bios. i can’t just use a thumb drive to update the board despite not having a supported cpu for previous bios versions ? with that being said are there any budget friendly asus boards i could use that would support not having a cpu for the bios updates? unless i am completely wrong and can still use the b450 board i mentioned above.*

Is there already confirmation that the latest bios supports the Ryzen 3000 series? So even if you had a way to upgrade, the CPU might still not be supported. For the B450-f in particular, there are no clear release notes for the latest bios, so we are left to guess.
Edit: see here, it should be ok: https://www.asus.com/News/EtaH71Hbjuio1arV

Asus has a bios flashback functionality that allows you to update the bios without CPU/mem but you need to follow specific instructions

As long as you have a Ryzen 1000 or 2000 series CPU you can update to version 2301 which supports the 3000 series CPUs.
If not you might be able to borrow one from AMD to use to update the BIOS:
