12 Pin motherboard with 2 8 pin power cables??

    Hi there

I just bought a load of new hardware and am halfway through my build.

My new motherboard is the ROG Maximus XI Code and it has 12 pins on it for power.*
My PSU is an EVGA Supernova G2 750, it has two 8 pin cables which break into 2 x 4 (total 16)

My question is this - is it okay to use one 8 pin connector and then safely use half of the other for the 4 pin socket? Leaving the other 4 pin just sat there? Is that safe? Is there not power going to those 4 pins too?

    Thanks!*
